leroy 5,339
After all the crashes and wrecks end today. Who is every ones pick? I will go first and pick Christopher Bell to win the Daytona 500
dirt54 159
Maybe I'm in the minority because I'm not a huge fan of the plate races. It always seems like it's just luck on makes it out of there with their car still in one-piece. The one think I do like is the mid-pack cars that end up in contention to win (Jordan Anderson and Cory Roper finished 2nd and 3rd in Truck series Friday). I don't have a favorite driver, so I'd like to see someone like Suarez, LaJoie or Ragan win it because this might be their chance to get one. If I had to put money on it, I'd go with the 2-time defending 500 champ Denny Hamlin to win it again (maybe with a push from his own driver Bubba which will spark some flames on the controversy on if a current driver should be able to own another team and be able to hire/fire another driver). In the last 9 years, Denny has won more times (3 times) than he has finished outside the top 5 (only twice). That's pretty impressive. With rain in the forecast, it brought to mind the rain-shortened 2019 Coke Zero 400 at Daytona that Justin Haley won in the #77 for Spire Motorsports. Today driving the #77 for Spire is 2010 Daytona 500 winner Jamie McMurray.
leroy 5,339
I am not a fan of restrictor plates either. Takes the racing right out of racing. All the big crashes aside. When you need another car to push you to pass? what is that? not racing in my opinion But it is still The Daytona 500. And racing on TV better than nothing I reckon. My first planned live event is Port Royal Mar20 barring snow or other bad news I put $5 on a couple different long shots out at the LAGO sportsbook just for the heck of it. Hoping to win it big after the carnage 😆 Today I also got my first look on the internet at this car NASCAR wants to race next year. WTF? I thought the CoT was bad up until I saw this thing. Nuts😥

con7 840
“It’s better than nothing” is the sole reason I watch any NASCAR, even Daytona. That said, as I watch the blocking techniques that lead to inevitable 15 car pile ups, “nothing” becomes more and more of an option.

I will go first and pick Christopher Bell to win the Daytona 500 I like your thinking. I put $10 on Bell at 35-1 early in the week. I also put $10 on Ryan Newman at 50-1, $5 at David Ragan at 100-1 and $5 on Ryan Preece at 150-1. I tried to go with guys who have at least been fast this week and have attractive odds. Betting odds on three of the four have come down since I made my bets, so a lot of other people have recognized them as good value bets as well. Betting any on the favorites at 8-1 or 10-1 at Daytona or Talladega just seems crazy to me.
FightForTheRail 2,633
At the risk of igniting the usual firestorm on here, Bubba Wallace also looked attractive to me at 25-1, given how fast he has been. But I did not put any money on him. He has since come down to 14-1.
racer80 1,592
My pick for the winner is The France Family.....LOL
ChrisAkulis 1,754
This race to me looks nothing like it did when I was growing up. When cars can’t get away from each other and you have a 35 car pile for 3 hours....carnage is inevitable. Having said that, it still is the official end of a long cold offseason of no televised racing. I’ll take Keselowski if for no other reason than he seems like a good blocker.
dan dan 1,596
Not if but when the big wreck comes, that's when I root for the little team to sneak thru and hopefully go on to win.
FightForTheRail 2,633
And the carnage begins.
RJO 729
First the big one, next comes rain and then pushing Pitbull. Time to shut it off.

Maybe next year they can start at 530 or 630? Remember back to the good days when every Sunday at 12 noon we would here Bob Jenkins say “welcome to SPEEDWORLD”.

Those seem like very good numbers, especially Ragan and Preece. In what other sport can you get those odds on someone with a legitimate (somewhat) chance to win.
Jack Brady 501
It really isn't a bad idea.. All you have to say is Derrick Cope.
WheelsUpHammerDown10 1,672
I was really on the Ryan Newman train and almost put something on him..good thing I didn't as he ended up getting caught up in that big wreck.
blowinblackboogers 113
I’ll take any driver who doesn’t get caught in the garage door pull down rope. 2
JohnyC 809
20 years ago I’d have paid an admission to go to a bar and watch. In fact I used to be in NASCAR pools and seldom missed a race. Now, you couldn’t pay me to watch. The rules, the racing, the stages, competition cautions, playoffs, drivers, it’s so unwatchable. No way should a short track 500 lap race take 4+ hours to complete. NASCAR was the golden goose and squandered the hole thing. I’d drive 300 miles to watch a 50 lap dirt race before I’d flip channels to watch 5 minutes of a nascar. And you don’t know how sad that is when you consider how big a fan I was 20 years ago.

I know this is driven by the networks and wanting to maximize viewership, but how many years now has the crown jewel been delayed because it starts mid-afternoon and they end up having to start it way late in the evening or the next Monday afternoon (and we'll play the same game tomorrow)... I would think the ratings take a pretty big hit every time they delay, but yet we keep playing this same game year after year. 1

These people in charge the last dozen years or so are complete clowns Everyone and anyone watching the weather knew it was going to rain today/night in FL. For days now !. And this is nothing new. It happens damn near every year. Go back to early start time for fck sake. duh Morons

PatsJags14 1,075
To distract from the typical “I haven’t watched in 20 years but I hate everything they’ve done lately”. I’ll get on topic and go with Stenhouse for the win
Sicklajoie 443
I saw replays of the wreck only because my FB feed was blowing up for awhile about it, but besides that I've been entertained by watching "Full Color Football - The History of the American Football League" on YouTube.
