ACCORD, NY – The Accord Speedway is locked, loaded and ready for this coming Friday evening, September 1st, to usher in a full compliment of awesome events scheduled at their pristine entertainment facility. Promoters Gary and Donna Palmer and staff have worked overtime and then some more overtime to prepare for one of the biggest nights of the season on the Accord Speedway schedule. When the gates of the speedway swing open on Friday afternoon, the Emmanuel’s Marketplace sponsored event will find the first order of business for the fans is to make a quick sprint to the concession area to partake in the many offerings the Accord chefs have prepared. After partaking of the many selections of sandwich or assorted entrees, a quick sidestep to the left will have fans salivating for some of the great frozen treats Emma’s Sweets and Treats can dish out in the form of ice cream sundaes, shakes and floats and more to satisfy one’s sweet tooth. More fun for the kids will be found as Michael Hatzigstergos goes creative with the great balloon sculptures.
The exciting seven division racing card will follow. No one ever knows what to expect at the “Gem in the Catskills” speed plant and the racing thus far in 2017 has produced many different winners among the six divisions of racing. Nine different winners in the United Pump and Tank Modified division, six in the Arkel Motors Sportsman, six in the WRWD Rookie division, five in the NEWS Sprints, four in the Junior Slingshots and five in the Upstate Auto Pure Stocks bear solid proof the racers have to be on their “A-Game” to secure a win at the speedway. The racing will commence with hot laps, heat racing and a couple of feature events before the lights go out on the speedway.
Once the speedway is completely dark, the experts at Santore’s Famous Fireworks will take over the skies high above the speedway. With more than eighty years of community service as their back-drop for the event, Santore’s Famous Fireworks promises to light up the Catskills skies like no other show before it has ever done. The flash, the fire, the kabooms, the turning of the night time into day and the constant ooh’s and aah’s from the fans will make for a spectacular memorable light show at Accord. The music that accompanies the fireworks show is provided by our in-house DJ Tim Adams. After the lights return to full power, the remainder of the exciting feature events will be run off. The Northeast Vintage Modifieds are on the calendar of events and the United Pump & Tank Modified division will vie for the Qualified spot in the OCFS Eastern States 200 to be held in Middletown, New York from October 20-22. It is also the “Night of Champions” at the speedway when all regular division champions will be crowned for the hard work and dedication they put into the racing programs.
Spectator gates will open at 5:30 PM. Hot laps begin at 7:00 and the first heat rolls out at 7:30 PM. Special Show Admission: Adults $16 – Seniors $14 – Kids $1 (age 11 and under) Family Savings Pack: $45 (Includes 2 Adults, 2 Kids (11 and under) plus $20 in Accord Bucks for use at the Concession Stands.
Great events for the fans to mark on their racing calendar are coming up quickly as the Accord Speedway will follow up the Labor Day show with First Responders Night at the speedway on September 8th and sponsored by Upstate Auto. This will mark the second year for the event and it promises to be even far more spectacular than the marvelous show put together one year ago. Many people have come together to work on this great tribute to those who protect us in every sense of our lives.
September 15th is the Grand Daddy of all events held at Accord as the running of the prestigious “King of the Catskills” event takes place. A full field of top flight Modified drivers is expected in for the event that will pay the winner $5,000.00. The Joe Giachinta Memorial for Sportsman is on the schedule paying $1,500.00 to the winner. The Emmanuel’s Marketplace Four Cylinder Enduro event will close the show with a big pay day awaiting for the driver who can dodge the engaging traffic to drive into the WRWD Radio Victory Lane.
