BATAVIA, NY – If the doldrums of late winter had not built up enough anticipation for the 2018 season, the announcement of modifieds making their way to Genesee County certainly has.
Genesee Speedway will be running “The Gladiator” Big Block/Small Block Modified event on Thursday, August 16th. This $2,000-to-win, $200-to-start 40-lap event marks the first Modified race at the 1/3-mile since 2007, and will also be the first time Big Blocks get their chance to battle at Batavia. This special show is presented by Professional Drainage Systems and Wraptile Graphics.
The event will utilize rules common to those at Woodhull Raceway and similar to that of the Short Track Super Series, featuring the ability to run sail panels. American Racer and Hoosier Racing Tires will be allowed, with the minimum weight being 2,400 pounds for each car, regardless of engine combination.
“We have been looking to have a modified race since we took over Genesee and thanks to Professional Drainage Systems and Wraptile Graphics they have made this dream a reality,” exclaimed Genesee Speedway Co-Promoter Mike Fisher. “We have already heard from a number of drivers that are planning on coming and we know this will be a great opportunity for many modified fans to check out the great stuff we have going on in Batavia.”
The Gladiator will be the third and final Thursday Night Thunder event of the 2018 season. The midweek show will also feature the Crate Late Models, Mini Stocks, Bandits, and the third round in the Street Stock Mini Series. Start time is posted for 7:00 P.M.
The on-track start to the 2018 season is less than a month away, with the Spring Fling Enduro and open practice day taking place on Saturday April 21st. The competitive season opener will be Saturday Night, May 5th. For more information, visit www.Genesee-Speedway.com.
