MIDDLETOWN, NY – If you like open-wheel Modifieds, Orange County Fair Speedway in Middletown, New York is the place to be on Saturday, May 12 when three divisions of the lightning fast race cars take to the five-eighths-mile Hard Clay speedway. The 467cid Big-Block Modifieds will vie for top honors in their 30-lap feature race, while the 350 cid Small-Block earth-shakers will go to the post in a 25-lap main. Not to be outdone, the more restricted Small-Block powered Sportsman have a 20-lap feature scheduled. And to round out the night’s racing program, the full-bodied Street Stocks will challenge each other and the track in a 15-lap shootout. Qualifying heat races in all divisions will set the fields for the feature races.
Saturday night is also Scout Night as all Boy and Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and Brownies and their leaders in uniforms will be admitted to the Fairgrounds without charge. Scout groups are asked to inform the speedway office of their troop number, home town, and leaders’ names so that they may be recognized during the evening.
“Scouting has always been part of the true fabric of American life,” says speedway general manager Mike Gurda. “It’s an outstanding citizenship builder as well as being a great deal of fun. We’re happy to have all the scouts as our guests.”
Set to battle for top honors on Scout Night are point leaders Anthony Perrego (Big-Block Modifieds), tied Greg Sleight and Joe Conklin (Sportsman), and Jim Maher (Street Stocks). The May 12 race meet will be the first outing for the Small-Block Modifieds. Anthony Perrego is the division’s defending champion.
Arkel Motors, of New Windsor, New York, a full service International dealership, is the night’s sponsor.
Admission prices for the May 13 race meet remain at $15 adults, $13 seniors, and $1 for children 12 and under. The full night of racing begins promptly at 6:30 pm.
