OCFS Drivers Battle for Points as the Season Winds Down

MIDDLETOWN, NY – When the exhaust fumes settle from the Saturday, August 4 race meet at Orange County Fair Speedway in Middletown, New York, there will be just four more weeks of competition before the track point champions are crowned in all four racing divisions—the Big-Block Modifieds, Small-Block Modifieds, Sportsman, and Street Stocks.

For drivers in each of the speedway’s competing divisions this makes the upcoming racing program even more important as point championships—including trophies, cash bonuses, and all-important bragging rights—get closer to being determined.

All four racing divisions—Big-Block Modifieds, Small-Block Modifieds, Sportsman, and Street Stocks —will be in action on the 4th, with a full card of qualifying and feature races. Also on the evening’s program are Kids Club activities. Sparta Trucking is the night’s sponsor.

In the headline Big-Block Modified division, defending Small-Block Modified champion Anthony Perrego holds a slim 16 lead over former titlist Tommy Meier, with another former champion, Jerry Higbie, 56 points back.

Brian Krummel has yet to win a Small-Block Modified feature, but his consistent finishes has put him atop that division’s point chase, holding a 28-point lead over challenger Shane Jablonka.

In Sportsman competition, four-time winner Jimmy Johnson is the point leader, but his margin over super consistent Greg Sleight is only ten points (737 to 727). And in the unpredictable Sportsman division, Johnson’s championship is far from assured.

Jim Maher is the point leader in the Street Stock division, with a 37-point edge over Wayne Taylor. Charlie Donald holds down third place, 12 points behind Taylor.

Admission prices for the August 4 race meet remain at $15 adults, $13 seniors, and $1.00 for children 10 and under. There is a $1.00 car charge for the Drive-In section. Parking on the Fairgrounds is free. The full night of racing begins promptly at 6:30 pm.

Advance ticket sales for all remaining 2018 races, including the September 15 Eve of Destruction and the October 19-21 57th Annual Eastern States Weekend, and track information are available at the Orange County website, www.orangecountyfairspeedway.net, or from the Track Office.
