BATAVIA, NY – With the end of the 2018 Regular Season at the Genesee Speedway now the next race up, a host of championships are still in doubt; and for the one division where the championship is decided, they have their biggest race of the year.
BDK Construction and Warrior House of WNY will present Saturday Night’s “Super Six at 6:00” program, featuring the Russ Prentice Memorial for the 360 Late Models. This 29-lap event pays tribute to the driver that captured the first three track championships at Genesee for the 360 Late Models. This event annually held on Labor Day Weekend is not only a special race with its extended length and bonus payout, but it will be the final race for the division at Genesee after 35 years. This will be a highly emotional event for this tight-knit group of competitors running at the final area track to run this division. Dave DuBois locked up his record eighth division championship on Saturday with a dominating performance, but he will have his work cut out for him on Saturday with a host of drivers pressuring him as of late in the Johnson Automotive Class, plus some invaders that are sure to factor in to the mix.
The other five divisions in competitions still have unresolved championship pictures. Each of the 2017 champions are still in the mix, but in a few cases they will have some work to do in order to repeat. This is the case in the DML Sealing Bandits, as Jessica Traxler trails Bailey Logsdon by 17 points heading in to the division’s final race at the track this year. Traxler was able to score her first win of 2018 this past Saturday but will need a great deal of things to go right to claim the title this week. It’s a similar scenario with the Yasses Trucking and Construction Street Stocks as Byron Dewitt’s late-race incident kept him 16 points back of Dennis Cummings, who survived issues of his own to bring home a top five.
JJ Mazur ran second in the MHL Performance Crate Late Models on Saturday to hang on to his point lead, but it is down to just 10 after Bill Holmes captured his second win of the season. This means that even a subpar run by Mazur could open up the door for Holmes. David Pangrazio is also within striking distance but will need some help to factor in on Saturday for the title.
Kyle Inman took a major step towards securing his third-straight Cornerstone Eye Associates Sportsman Title at Genesee with in impressive win on Saturday Night, his second of the year. Inman now leads Austin Susice by 16 points, but with so many competitors in this division, that deficit could quickly be made up in the 25-lap feature this weekend.
The Pellegrino Auto Sales Mini Stocks also had high drama on Saturday with Cole Susice losing the lead just before halfway and Dante Mancuso pouncing for his fourth win of the year. Mancuso now leads by 10 points over the No. 98 as the youngster looks for his second straight division championship and fourth overall when factoring in his Bandit titles.
Racing action will kick off on Saturday Night at 6:00 P.M., with pit gates swinging open at 4:00 P.M. For more information, visit www.Genesee-Speedway.com.
