FORESTVILLE, PA – A late-season snowstorm couldn’t stop a hearty crowd of diehard race fans from coming out on St. Patrick’s Day to officially kick off the 2017 season as Big Diamond Speedway wrapped up its week-long car show at the Fairlane Village Mall in Pottsville.
The storm did play havoc with the early part of the 2017 schedule as opening night is now set for Friday, April 7 and the Money in the Mountains big block/small block challenge is now April 14 as nearly two feet of snow fell at the track.
Also affected by the storm is the open practice and Endruo Dash 50 which will now be held on April 2 at 2 p.m. The practice is open to any car with a cage.
Track Announcer Tim Pitts interviewed nearly a dozen drivers that were on hand on Friday night at the mall while kids took part in a coloring contest and dancers from the McGough Academy of Irish Dance in Orwigsburg entertained the crowd with traditional Irish dancing.
The team of Jesse Krasnitsky and Jeremy Rock defended their title in the tire-changing contest with a winning time of 1 minute, 19.20 seconds while sportsman driver Daryl Dissinger won the best appearing car award as voted on by the fans in attendance while the street stock cars of Joey Brennan and Robin Wagner finished second and third respectively in the voting.

The 30-lap 358 modified feature pays $4,000 to win while the 20-lap sportsman feature pays $1,000 to win. The night will be sponsored by Schaeffer’s Motorsports of Orwigsburg.
A rain date of April 14 has been set aside for opening night.
The Money in the Mountains big block/small block challenge on April 14 plays $6,000 to win the 40-lap feature and $400 to take the green with a rain date of April 21, if needed.
The race winner earns a guaranteed starting spot, a $500 value, for the Short Track Super Series event at the track on June 6.
