BRIGHTON, ONT – Mother nature was in it to win it Saturday night providing the perfect weather for drivers to sling some dirt at Brighton Speedway.
While the track wasn’t optimal to host the Southern Ontario Sprints this weekend, the night presented by Pinty’s Foods, Mix 97 and Brighton Recycling provided a full race card with Late Models, a Canadian Modified Dash For Cash, Thunder Stocks, Comp 4, Mini-Stocks and Junior Stingers.
Checkers rain for Rayner
No. 55 Bradley Rayner led the field of Vanderlaan Building Products Late Models to green and never gave up the point dominating the entire 30-lap feature. Rayner went on to score his second late model career win while No. 09 Robbie Wilson and No. 7 Adam Nayler waged an aggressive door to door battle for runner up. Much to the fans delight,t No. 46 Brandon Mowat and No 57. Charlie Sandercock brought their rivalry back to the track duking it out for a top three position. Wilson took home a hard earned second place finish with Nayler in third, Sandercock fourth and Mowat fifth.
Handley’s dash reaps some cash
In a mini prelude to the Canadian Modified/UMP series double header, a handful of mods treated fans of a teaser of what is to come. Bainer’s OilGARD Anti-Rust Canadian Modified driver No. 91 Kraig Handley took a field of six to green in a 10-lap dash for cash. Handley put the hammer down and cashed in on a solid finish to victory lane.
Reid parks it
It only took Brighton Automotive Thunder Stock No. 85 Austin Reid 8 laps to muscle his way from his ninth position into first place where he settled in for a fight to the finish with No. 72 Doug Anderson. Fans gasped as a caution on the last lap slowed the pace and evened the playing field. Reid punched the throttle to score his first win of the season leaving Anderson to settle for second. Leslie Turcotte-Mowat was solid and consistent throughout the 25 laps to clinch a third-place finish in the Larry’s Towing Triple Crown Race 1. No. 03 Justin Ramsay took home fourth and No. 48 Adam Well placed fifth respectively.
Kippen kills Triple Crown finish
Coming off his first Bill John’s Comp 4 career win, No. 43 Devon Kippen was thirsty for a Lava Clean Triple Crown victory. On the third trip around of the 20 lap feature he stole the lead from No. 50 Willy Bulten and took off to victory lane. Bulten pushed hard to try to catch up and take the lead back but the opportunity never came as he sailed to a second-place finish. No. 52 Doug Galt earned third, No. 1 Brock Gregory clinched fourth and No. 44 Tommy Bailey placed fifth.
More checkers for Moore
Hungry for a repeat of opening night, No. 14m Matthew Moore bit down and flew in his mini-stock to victory lane. No. 7 Anthony Rinaldi in his rookie year came in second in this new division that races in conjunction with the Comp 4’s.
Gregory scores second win
As a last-minute addition in the schedule some of the Stingers joined us for the night. No. 1 Kyle Gregory led the field of Quinte Junior Septic Stingers to green in the 15-lap feature and never looked back as he cruised to his second consecutive checkered flag. No. 95 Ethan Schoep took runner-up, No. 93 secured third, No. 30 Quinnten Colson-Gray finished fourth and Rookie No.18 Carter Rhodes placed fifth.
