Michaels Memorial Show to Feature BRP Modified Tour, Fireworks, and More on July 27 at Michaels Mercer Raceway

MERCER, PA – This Saturday, July 27, Erme’s, Inc. will present the Michaels Memorial Show at Michaels Mercer Raceway. The race will pit the track’s Diehl Ram Big Block Modified stars against the region’s best, the BRP Modified Tour, in a 35 lap race that will pay $3,000 to the winner.

“We have received calls from a number of top racers from New York,” said track owner Ed Michaels. With the enhanced purse, a favorable weather forecast, and no conflict with western New York’s familiar Saturday night Modified venue, a number of invaders are expected. Erick Rudolph, a former champion with the BRP Modified Tour and a past winner at the track, has indicated that he plans to attend. How many others will come streaming across the border? You need to be there to see it for yourself!

A number of regulars from Michaels Mercer Raceway are leading contenders on the Modified Tour as well. For example, Rex King, Jr. and Rex King, Sr. are tied atop the track’s point standings, and they rank first and second in tour points. The race will award track points as well as series points, so it could figure prominently in the championship battle! Which King will emerge on top?

Dave Murdick and Jeremiah Shingledecker, both recent winners, are expected, along with Kyle Fink, J.R. McGinley, Kevin Hoffman, and many more. Waiting to defend the home turf will be Lonny Riggs and Jimmy Holden, to name just a few.

Also on tap will be the Fastrak Limited Modifieds, presented by Turn 4 Toilets. Jerry Schaffer held off his son, Brian, to get his first Mercer win of the season. Steve Slater, Brian Sadler, and Shane Izzo will be ready to challenge. Eric Martin and Garret Krummert are expected to compete in both divisions. Come out to see some of the best racers in the Crate Modifieds do battle on the tricky Mercer oval.

The Racesaver 305 Sprint Cars will race under the twin banners of Hard’s Welding & Fabrication and River Valley Butcher Block. Three of the division’s top drivers are in the hunt for the track title. Kyle Colwell and Jacob Gomola are tied, and Greg Dobrosky is just four markers behind. Over a dozen other racers will be gunning for the big win, so they can move ahead in the title chase.

Three member of the Jones family, racing out of West Middlesex, will be in action in the Barris Trucking Modified Lites. Proud father Rod has his hands full with daughter Vivian, a winner of several races this season, while son Roman is looking for his first triumph. Nearly two dozen other drivers, headed by Shane Webb and Dusty Frantz, will be ready for the challenge of keeping up with the Joneses.

Joe Campbell has a substantial lead in the Mini Stock division offered by Ray’s Racing Collectibles and Eperthener’s Auto Wrecking. He debuted a new car at the last race, and he immediately took it to victory lane. Mike Porterfield, Johnny Bruce, Sr., and two dozen other racers will also be in action this Saturday.

And, the fireworks display and driver autograph session, will also take place this Saturday!

Pit gates will open at 4 p.m. and spectator gates will open an hour later. Practice sessions will be held at 6:30. The first heat race of the night will go to the post at 7 p.m.

The admission prices for this special event are as follows. Adults will enjoy the show for just $15. Seniors (60+) will come in for $13. Children (13 and under) will be admitted for free if they are in the company of a paying patron. Pit Passes will be available for $35. Seniors (60+) and children (10 and under) will be admitted to the pits for $30.

If you cannot make it to the track this week, a Fast Five program will be held on August 3, along with the Junior Sprints. Coming soon will be the Patriot Sprint Tour. The winged warriors from New York use 360 cubic inch powerplants, but there is no shortage of excitement when they roll out onto the speedway.
