Money Won Totals from Centennial Weekend at the Orange County Fair Speedway – DTD Exclusive

By MIKE MALLETT

Centennial Weekend at the Orange County Fair Speedway will more than likely go down in history as the highest paying event ever in Modified racing. When unofficial tabulations were made based on posted purses, the weekend paid out $425,000 to race teams.  This includes all drivers that competed in the big and small-block Modified divisions during the weekend event.

It’s no surprise that Mat Williamson led all drivers with his total for the week coming in at $107,800. That total includes the $100,000 he won in the 160-lap finale on Saturday night as well his two big-block starts on Thursday and Friday and his small-block efforts on Friday night.

Stewart Friesen earned the second most of any driver in the pit area at $41,250. His total includes $35,000 for his second place effort in the Centennial Weekend main-event. The only blemish on his resume was the small-block race where he got the wall late earning $250.

Matt Sheppard had two wins and a third, all in big-block competition, to take home a cool $35,000 for the three days of action. Larry Wight won the small-block program Friday and finished in eighth in the main-event Saturday to earn $17,100. Danny Johnson finished just behind him in the money won category with $16,750 in purse monies.

Billy Decker finished sixth in overall money won at $13,250. Billy Dunn was next in line at $13,200 after he scored a pair of seconds on Friday night. His luck wasn’t as good on Saturday where he dropped out early. Jimmy Phelps solid week paid him $12,700. Anthony Perrego had a shot at the $100,000 on Saturday only to break late. He ended up 12th and earned $11,250 for the week. Justin Haers competed only Friday and Saturday but had a solid week taking home $10,100 to complete the top 10 in money won for the week.
