Grammes Keeps Winning at Penn Can; Gets Number Three on Legends Night

SUSQUEHANNA, PA – On the night “Pappy” Beavans and Penn Can Speedway legends were honored, another chapter was written. If the first half is any indicator of what the season will bring, hold on to your seats ladies and gentlemen because we are in for an exciting year. Joey” Mr. Excitement” Grammes has been hunting down points leader Dan Pompey with 5 wins, 2 -2nd place and 1 -3rd place finish. The hunter as now become the hunted with 3 wins in a row. The Big Creek Concrete sponsored 5J now has a $350 bounty. Penn Can Speedway will pay the modified winner $1650 this Friday August 4th, whether Grammes or another driver pulls into victory lane. Invaders will likely be present since Penn Can does not implement a handicapping system.

The man on a mission Grammes is 115 points out of the points lead with his win Friday July 28th. Pompey knocked on the door of the Grammes powerplant thru most of the 30-lap feature. Dan tried the top and bottom groove but just couldn’t get around him. The win puts Grammes within 43 points for the American Racer cup points title also.

Mike Nagel jr. wins on a night he will never forget. What more can a driver ask for than having 3 generations with you in victory lane. Nagel had his son to bring 4 generations in one place. “To park it in victory lane is cool, but to have my dad, grandfather and son here is something I will never forget.”

The factory stock division has had the most 1st time winners this season. Friday night was no different. Tommy Groover checked out by lap #4 and never looked back. “What a rush, I could get used to being here really quick but we all know how racing is so I’m just going to enjoy it all week.”

“Quick” Nick Kennedy is no stranger to victory lane. Kennedy would earn the win over Sheldon Whitman and Nick Wilmot.

28 Xcel 600 modified brought the North and South tours to Penn Can. The Cottman Transmission sponsored #08 of Jon Josko dominated the 20-lap feature. Unfortunately, a red flag would delay the feature. Scottie Heilman went flipping in turn #1 and got hit while coming back on the track only to see him flip 2 more times.

After being checked out at the hospital, he was grateful to be in one piece. “I need to thank the track crew and ambulance for getting to me as fast as they did. A huge thank you to Doug Borger for building an extremely safe racecar. I couldn’t walk away but I am able to walk around today because the car protected me like it should. I can’t wait to strap back in a go racing.”

Jon Josko talked of his win. “Doug and his crew has turned this place around. The track was near perfect. We are 2 for 2 at Penn Can. I can’t wait to see how much it improves the next time we roll in.”

On tap is the much-anticipated Backpack night. August 11th will have the Speedway give away 250 back packs to school age children.

Entry forms will be given to parents with paid admissions. The forms must be dropped in the bucket located at the candy booth. Names will be called during intermission. The back packs will be in full view thanks to CK General Contracting Inc. for sponsoring the night.
