Willy Decker Snags Second Win Of 2016 At Fulton

FULTON, NY – Great summer weather, a pit full of cars and close racing made for a great night Saturday at the Fulton Speedway for both fans and competitors on Oswego County Today .Com night.

Drivers going to victory lane were, Willy Decker (Big Block Modifieds) Mike Button (Sportsman) Chris Fleming (Late Models) Trevor Wright & Willy Decker Jr. (Novice Sportsman) Tim Dunn (Four Cylinders).

In the 35 lap Tracey Road Equipment DIRTcar Big Block Modified feature Katelyn Hile would lead the opening two laps before Willy Decker shot into the lead using the top groove of the speedway.

With 5 laps complete Decker would open a 10 car length advantage as the race behind him was tight in the top five between Hile, Jim Witko Jr., Adam Roberts and Tim Sears Jr.

At the 10 lap point Decker was on rails opening a straightaway lead over Hile. Sears moved into third and was closing on Hile with Witko and Roberts still showing on the scoring tower.

With no yellows to tighten the field up on lap 20 Decker was still on cruise control way out front. Sears moved into second and took off after the leader. Hile raced alone in third with Witko, Tim Kerr, Mike Bowman, Adam Roberts and Pat Ward using every inch of the racing surface in a tight fight for fourth through eighth.

With 10 laps to go Sears slowly was cutting into Decker’s lead as the final laps started to click off the lap counter. Hile was still having the best run of her Modified career in third.

Over the last 10 laps with no yellows, Decker’s lead seemed insurmountable but someone forgot to tell Sears. Decker would diamond off turns one and two and hug the bottom in turns three and four while Sears raced the extreme bottom in all four turns.

Sears was all over Decker on the final lap as the two raced inches apart. Exiting turn four Decker and Sears made racing contact as the drag race to the finish was on that saw Decker win by 0.252 at the checkers. Tim Kerr, Pat Ward and Katelyn Hile finished third through fifth.

One of the SUNY Canton Sportsman top runners Ron Davis III looked to erase recent bad luck as he jumped out to the early lead in the 25 lap feature.

A yellow on lap 6 and restart would see Mike Button move into second and put pressure on Davis. On lap 9 that pressure would pay off as Button would use his momentum on the top of the speedway to be scored the new leader.

At the 10 lap point Button and Davis were putting on a show racing side by side for the top two spots. Kyle Fink, Tyler Trump and Jeremy Pitcher were in a slug-fest for third through fifth.

With 10 laps to go Button opened a quarter of a straightaway lead over Davis and Jeremy Pitcher with Trump and Todd Root showing in the top five.

Yellows on lap 22 and 23 was what Button didn’t want to see, erasing the lead he built up but set up a two lap dash to the checkers.

Davis would throw everything he had at Button including slide jobs in turns one and two. Button never flinched and kept his foot down on the accelerator for the narrow 0.567 of a second win over Davis. Kyle Fink, Todd Root and Chris Cunningham finished third through fifth.

In the exciting 20 lap Billy Whittaker Cars & Trux Late Model feature Dave Talbot and Steve Coit would both lead in the opening 5 laps before Billy Eisele would take over the top spot.

At the halfway point Eisele would hold a narrow lead as Bret Belden, Chris Fleming and AJ Kingsley had their sights set on Eisele as they were also in tight fight for second, third and fourth.

With 5 laps to go Eisele looked to be heading for his first Fulton Speedway win as he was on rails out front and then a yellow flag waved that he didn’t want to see, erasing the lead he had built up.

On the restart Fleming, digging on the bottom, took the lead from Eisele who was running the top. Over the remaining laps Fleming and Eisele would put on a battle royal with the difference being the moisture and speed Fleming found on the inside groove being the difference for the victory over Eisele. Bret Belden, AJ Kingsley and Kevan Cook finished third through fifth.

Canadian Trevor Wright, who is a Merrittville Speedway regular, made the long tow to the Fulton Speedway pay off, winning the first E&V Energy Novice Sportsman feature. The 14 year old racer who had never seen the speedway before made the winning pass with one lap to go. Dorian Wahdan, Brandon Carvey, Jordan Kelley and Ryan Hatherill finished second through fifth.

In the second 15 lap feature Joey Buonagurio appeared to have a dominating win. A post-race trip over the scales showed Buonagurio was light, giving the win to Willy Decker Jr.. Richie Riggs, Patrick LaPage, Skyler Greenfield and Kyle Hulsizer finished second through fifth.

In the wild 15 lap JB Logging Firewood Four Cylinder feature it all came down to the final lap and final corner. Ray Bechler and Chuck Powelczyk were locked in another battle for the win. Going into turn four coming to the checkers Powelczyk got into the back of Bechler, sending both cars into a spin. Tim Dunn took full advantage grabbing the victory. David DeNova, Chris Bonoffski, Skip DeGroff and Justin Buske finished second through fifth.

This Saturday, July 23 the Billy Whittaker Cars & Trux Late Models will go topless, taking the roofs off. Fans will be able to see in the driver’s cockpit to see just how hard drivers work muscling a Late Model around the speedway.

Also on the Sunoco Fulton Ethanol Facility night race card will be the Tracey Road Equipment DIRTcar Modifeds, SUNY Canton Sportsman, E&V Energy Novice Sportsman and JB Logging & Firewood Four Cylinders.

Adult admission will be $12 with everyone 18 years old and younger free, pits are $27. Gates will open at 5:00 with racing at 7:00.
