FULTON, NY – Tom Sears Jr was victorious in the Dirt Track Digest “Win and You’re In” event at the Fulton Speedway. The triumph locks Sears into the Billy Whittaker Cars 200 at Oswego on Sunday.  He will roll off from the 41st starting position.

“Running here weekly definitely has its advantage, knowing how the track changes throughout the night,” said Sears Jr. “We weren’t very good through the heat race but we made a couple changes like we normal do and it worked out really good.”

2017 track champion Tim Sears Jr., led the pack of Modifieds to the green flag for the 25-lap event, looking strong in the opening laps. Unfortunately, the opening laps were all Sears could complete, as his car abruptly shut off on lap five. Matt Hulsizer inherited the lead, and looked strong early, but not as strong as Tom Sears Jr.

Tim’s uncle Tom started deep, 11th, and took advantage of the two opening laps wrecks to advance quickly. Sears passed Justin Wright for second on lap ten, then took the lead from Hulsizer just three laps later. Once in clean air, Sears took off.

A caution on lap 20 slowed the pace, but didn’t slow Sears much. The final handful of laps saw former track champion Tom Sears Jr. cruise to the win over Matt Hulsizer, Joe August, Justin Wright, and Chad Phelps. At the end, four of the top five competed at Fulton on a regular basis.
