OSWEGO, NY – Peter Britten, Danny Johnson, and Gary Lindberg won the Super DIRTcar Series Triple 30s, as the next group of drivers locked themselves in for the prestigious Billy Whittaker Cars 200 on Sunday while scoring a $4,000 payday.

Sunday’s polesitter Jimmy Phelps took control in the early stages of the first Triple 30, leading over Peter Britten and Max McLaughlin. Phelps reached lapped traffic by lap ten, and Britten closed in fast.

At halfway, Britten took his first stab at the lead, looking high as Phelps was pinned low. That didn’t work, so Britten crossed over and drove under Phelps and into the lead. By this time, McLaughlin had reeled in both leaders, looking to the top on both, but couldn’t prevail.

As the laps wound down, Britten was able to skate through traffic a little better than Phelps, extending his advantage as the lap counter hit 20. In the final circuits, Billy Dunn found his way around McLaughlin for third, then closing in on Phelps.

However, nobody could match the speed of the former Australian national champion, as Britten won the first Triple 30 over Phelps, Dunn, McLaughlin, and Matt Sheppard.

“I was racing right there with Jimmy (Phelps) and that team is always tough,” said Britten.  “We were working pretty hard and trying to make sure we came here competitive.  It’s just good to be out there and have a race work out in your favor for once.”

Keith Flach got a rocket start to the second Triple 30, rapidly building up a comfortable lead over first Tim Sears Jr., then Danny Johnson after lap three. However, Flach’s lead disappeared in an instant, as lapped traffic hung up Flach and Johnson ate into the lead at the speed of sound. Just as Johnson reached the bumper of Flach, the yellow waived on lap 12.

On the restart, Johnson found barely enough space to muscle his way under Flach and snatch the top spot. Once in clean air, Johnson lodged his foot into the firewall and established a lead of a full straightaway by lap 20.

Rudolph slid under Flach with 24 circuits in, and combined with lapped cars giving Johnson fits, could close the gap some in the waning stages. Rudolph’s efforts to sweep his night were too little and too late, as Johnson scored the win in the second Triple 30 over Rudolph, Flach, Justin Haers, and Demetrios Drellos.

“I had a good run on the outside and he slid up a little bit in turn one,” mentioned Rudolph.  “I was able to drive underneath him (Flach) on the bottom. The car was hooked up pretty good.”

Lindberg took control of the field at the drop of the green flag for the final Triple 30, trailed by Stewart Friesen and Mat Williamson. Williamson, a 358 Triple 25 winner earlier that night, stole second on lap four, then going after Lindberg.

However, Lindberg stood strong in his big-block debut, fending off challenges as the leaders hit lapped traffic. On lap 17, Friesen got back by Williamson, as both Friesen and Williamson had caught Lindberg.

On lap 20, Lindberg looked high on a lapped car, and Friesen pounced, shooting to the bottom and taking the lead. Just after the pass, Brandon Walters slowed for a yellow, negating Friesen’s likely winning move.

On the restart, Lindberg set sail once more, but Friesen slipped from second back to fourth, with Gary Tomkins sliding into third and Williamson back to second. Over the final laps, Williamson couldn’t quite hang with Lindberg, and it was Lindberg claiming the checkered in his big-block debut.

Williamson, Tomkins, Friesen and Larry Wight rounded out the top five in the final Triple 30.

“I thought he (Friesen) had me there,” commented Lindberg.  “I got caught behind a lapped car. I was patient and thought I got a good run there.  I know I had to get around him otherwise Stew was going to get around me. I went to go around him and Stew ducked under me. That was lucky that the caution came out and they gave it back to me.”
