OSWEGO, N.Y. (October 11, 2019) — When the dust settled on Pro Stock qualifying, a new name in the division, Tony Markou was atop the boards. Markou is not new to racing, but prior to 2019, he had not driven a race car in two decades.
“I took time off to raise my family,” Markou said. “Prior to this, I raced some Sportsman and IMCA Modifieds, but that was 20 years ago. They’re heavier and don’t have a ton of power, but they’re fun.”
Markou is based out of Brainard, NY, close to Lebanon Valley Speedway. He was optimistic coming into today, but didn’t expect to top the 41-car field.
“I didn’t really think my lap was that fast,” noted Markou. “I thought there was a little more out there but I guess it’s okay. I’m not gonna play with the car too much tonight, but the pressure is off so we can enjoy it.”
Markou will lead the pack to green on Sunday morning, with Josh Coonradt lining up on the outside pole for the second year in a row. The 50-lap main is scheduled for Sunday morning, the second feature of the day.
