Brian McDonald Grabs Top Ten Finish in 358 Modified DIRTcar Series Race at Cornwall Speedway on Monday Night; Brockville Speedway Rained Out

With Canada Weekend upon us this past weekend, Brian “Slim” McDonald had a busy week of racing in store.  The plan was to attend Mohawk International Raceway on Friday night, Brockville Speedway on Saturday night, followed by back to back 100 lap races at Cornwall Speedway on Sunday and Monday.

As has been the story for much of the season so far, rain was the issue again all day Friday night and track officials at Mohawk Raceway had no choice but to cancel Friday night’s events.

It was more of the same on Saturday at Brockville Speedway, despite getting to the track and getting hot laps in.  A heavy downpour just prior to race time left the track a mess, and a cancellation was imminent.

The weather finally co-operated at Cornwall Speedway on Sunday with a 100 lap Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series race on the card.  It was a rough night for the KB Motorsports group, just barely making it into the 30 car field.  The bad luck continued in the feature, and McDonald was unable to finish.

Monday night at Cornwall was the 100 lap 358 Modified Series/Canadian Nationals Series race.  McDonald started the night off by setting fast time in his qualifying group and backed that up with a win in his eight lap heat race, locking himself into the redraw for a top ten starting position in the 100 lap feature.  By luck of the draw, McDonald drew the number one starting spot and the opening 25 laps of the race.  As the race hit the halfway point, McDonald was still running in the third position.  He maintained a top five spot through much of the race, but with rain falling during the final ten laps the handling was starting to go away and McDonald crossed the finish line with a seventh place result.

This coming weekend, Brian McDonald and his KB Motorsports team will return to Mohawk International Raceway on Friday night.  On Saturday night, the LaSalle Motorsports ride should be back together and McDonald will be looking for his third Brockville win of the season.  Brian will be back in his own KB Motorsports ride at Cornwall Speedway Sunday.
