(04/14/12 About Bloggin’ Time) – Lebanon Valley put on a race-a-licious show for their opener, which lived up to expectations. Funny story right off the bat I ran into a guy who knows a bit about racing Rob Yetman. I asked him where his race rod was and he smiled and said, “ready for Malta.” Rob is racing the great race place in 2012 so heads up Pro Stock guys; you got a championship-winning driver to contend with. The funny part was the animated fellow standing next to Yetman and I talking about how much he enjoyed the Ridge track…More
The 2012 racing season finally got underway this past weekend as Fulton Speedway kicked off their new season with Methanol Meltdown Sprint Car racing event, along with Sportsman and Late Models. I also attended the 1st Annual Brockville Ontario Speedway Fan Fair on Saturday morning, and the practice session at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park on both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday was a busy day for me, as I hit the road to Brockville for my first stop of the day. I attended the Brockville Speedway Fan Fair held at Home Hardware in Brockville. Last year’s Modified champion Danny O’Brien…More
(04/13/12 About Bloggin’ Time) – Glen Ridge provided some race-a-licious action Friday night all around, which included a Modified feature that made it hard for fans to keep their rear end planted to the bleachers. What the fans and myself were treated to was a sloberknocker between three championship winning racecar drivers. First my night started off by visiting with Klinko Steve Kline and Dynamite Dave Grace whom are two 2nd year drivers in the Rookie Sportsman looking to gain seat time. From there it was on to make Erik “Willy” Nelson and Jamike Sowle Twitter…More
First: Really, now, who woulda thought that the winner of the US Masters would be a fella named “Bubba”?? In a way, I don’t think golf really requires one to be much of an athlete. However, it can be quite an experience when playing the game, with most, if you’re like me, not too good at it, getting “upset” when things don’t go as planned. Second: I found this via a link on the Track Forum – Why no driver “cross overs” anymore. http://espn.go.com/racing/nascar/cup/story/_/id/7778239/nascar-there-more-aj-foyts-mario-andrettis And on the Track Forum: http://www.trackforum.com/forums/showthread.php?162419-Great-article-by-Ed-Hinton-on-why-there-s-no-drivers-running-multiple-types-of-races Third: Some photos shown on Facebook, from the practice session…More
This past weekend finally marked the end of the off-season, as Brockville Speedway put their 2011 season to rest with their annual awards banquet. 358 Modified champion Danny O’Brien, Sportsman champion Chris Herbison, Street Stock champ Kevin Fetterly Jr. Rookie champion Jean Marc Larose and Vintage champion Wayne Riddell were the top of the class in their respective division and were honored for their great seasons along with the rest of the top finishers in each division. I always enjoy the banquets for the local tracks, but I am ready get on with the 2012 racing season. Other tracks in…More
Well my plan was to hit the SDS show at ‘Daigua, but working nights means your up all night and if you’re up all night it means you sleep until 3:45 and if you sleep to 3:45 it means you make it to the Track Of Champs just in time for the Modified heats and forget trying to make a 3 hour trip in 1:45 minutes. With that being said it was business as usual at Fonda Speedway for the season opening Ice Jam with 33 Modifieds on hand to take a crack at winning $4,000. Since arriving fashionably late…More
First: Per Kenny Wallace after the Cup race this past Sunday at Martinsville: “It’s Danica Patrick’s fault” – referring to the late race caution that completely changed the outcome of the race. Why? Because of the ridiculous “Top 35 in points” NASCAR cr*p. David Reutimann, driving for Tommy Baldwin, and scoring points for Danica, again, because of ridiculous NASCAR cr*p, so Danica would not have to qualify – like at Darlington, her next scheduled Cup race, but would be in the show because of owner points. Heck, even David came out with this, after the race: “We needed to finish…More
First: At times, it’s kinda hard figuring out what to start these columns with. Such was the case with this one. Well, it was, until I had mail delivered to my house this past Monday. Among the mail was the newsletter from the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing (EMMR). The EMMR has been in existence for over 25 years. Former race driver Lynn Paxton is its president. In his message from the president in this newsletter was some news that I found to be quite unbelievable. Lynn says: “I’d also like to take this opportunity to welcome our 1st paid…More
March 2012 Observe & Report Written By Rob Hazer For DTD – If Lil’ Kim, Christina Aguilera, and Pink are three bad ass women from the Moulin Rouge then what would you call three females who drive fast, sling dirt, and aren’t afraid to challenge in a male dominated sport? Six days a week they can be called ladies, but on that one-day don’t mistake their smile for weakness; you call them the competition. Brittany Tresch, Katelyn Kane, and Kim Lavoy are just a few successful female racers making a name for themselves by results rather than media hype. A…More
The 2012 racing season is just about here, and there are plenty of stories to follow at all our local racetracks as the new season approaches. It seems that many tracks have been struggling through a difficult economic time, but our tracks in this area seem to be on the verge of a great season, with speculation of increased car counts, and exciting events planned for the coming season. Over the past few weeks I have attended several racing related events that lead up to the start of the new season. On Tuesday, March 7th, Cornwall Motor Speedway hosted a…More
