Good day race fans.

It's Thursday afternoon here at the dirt track, and it looks like it should be a great night of racing. It HAS to be better than last night. There wasn't alot of passing.

I thought I was going to be a hero tonight. I got audio interviews with alot of the drivers here, but they came out terribly. I typed their answers, and I'll share them next along with some of our photographers' favorite pictures from last night.

I wish I could point to one thing that we did, but the crew really worked hard, and we made really good decisions on tires. That's where we snookered them a little bit.

It's actually one of Brett's engines from last year.

There's nothing really super trick, but it's a good balanced package.

We're trying some different stuff today.

Billy Pauch

Hopefully they'll give us a track we can race on. That's the main thing. Last night was all rubbered down on the bottom. It was a train race.

I didn't think we had a chance to qualify. There was alot of really good cars in front of us.

Dan Vauter

All of a sudden cars started slowing down in front of me. I got slowed down the best I could, and then I just got drilled from behind.

The rearend was completely destroyed. It just fell out of the car.

We went through four shocks, torsion bars.

We're down here to race, and I brought enough stuff to get the car back together if we had to.

Tim Kerr

There wasn't much to see. Everyone started going everywhere, and there was no place to go.

Thank God we brought some spare parts. We had to put a rearend in it, and a complete front end and brake system. We're trying to get the body so it doesn't look like we've been in a rollover.

I got a good feeling we'll be alright.

We were just coming up through there. It was pretty dusty. I saw some action, and i slowed up a little bit. You do'nt want to slow up too much because the guys in the back of you will push you into it.

These guys are a good team, and they work hard for me. We'll see if we can go out there and get a good spot in the heat race.

This is a brand new race car. Right out of the box we were quick time in hot laps. It was a good feeling for the guys and myself as well.

We've got to put that behind us and roll on to today.

Jeff Brownell should be back behind the wheel of his own 29 car. He was sick last night, and Vic Coffey raced his mount.

A few teams have gone to back-up cars including:
Hearn, Pratt, Rauscher, Brownell.

Teams that had alot of work to do to repair primaries would include:
Laubach, Bachetti, Kerr, Vauter, and likely a few others!

The issues I wanted to question were:
1. Calling off a restart coming out of turn four
2. Jimmy Phelps getting his spot back after spinning coming to the green flag.

1. A number of us in the tower talked, and the consensus is that a yellow should never be thrown when drivers are expecting green.
It was a miscue, and it was unfortunate.
No reason to dwell on it, so we move to question 2.

At Merrittville Speedway this summer Chris Steele was docked two positions when he drove off the outside groove of the track to avoid a yellow.
The rules state that if you aren't able to maintain a caution speed that you get your spot where you fall back in line. There's no provision for an unfortunate situation, but Phelps was fortunate to get his spot back.

Anything is still possible, but Planck does have a great shot!

What was disappointing last night was the field getting torn up on the front stretch. While expecting to see the green flag out of turn four the leaders were shown the yellow. Cars further back in the pack charged through, and a big wreck ensued causing alot of damage to good cars.

GREEN FLAG On an original green flag, all cars must stay in line until past the starter’s stand. On restarts, racing resumes immediately upon display of green flag or green light. Pole sitter (leader) sets the pace. Some tracks may require the lead car to reach a specific spot on a track to bring out the green and not allow passing until each car has passed that object. Cars passing prior to reaching the spot will be penalized. The penalty will be determined by the track. YELLOW FLAG The yellow flag signifies caution and will be given to the first car passing the starter. After the yellow flag is displayed, cars must slow and hold position until either the green or red flag is displayed. In regular shows where the caution laps do not count, the car or cars that bring out the caution must go to the rear. In races where caution laps count any car involved in or which spins, slows, or stops to avoid an accident where the yellow flag is displayed must pick up its position in the field, wherever it regains its momentum. All others maintain position. At the discretion of track officials, a car may be put to the rear of the field for adding to a yellow flag situation. Any car falling out of position during a caution period must pick up its position wherever it regains its momentum. If the field passes him, he must fall in at the rear. The only exceptions are if the car is coming to the start/finish line or to a track corn

There is apparently a gator that lives back in the pond, but I've never seen it. I think it's too cold back there for gators to be out right now.

It's the best they can do given the layout of the facility. I love that they're not letting trailers into the infield with the exception of Danny Johnson and the 49er spec engine-powered car.
