Southern Tier standout
Lin Hough, popular Pennsylvania pilot Ralph
Quarterson and north country favorite Gary Reddick
will be inducted into the Northeast Modified Hall of
Fame on Memorial Day Weekend ‘10. These three
driving greats add their names to a stellar list of
Modified legends that was started in 1992 when the
Hall of Fame was officially christened on the Cayuga
County Fairgrounds in Weedsport, New York.
The 2010 Induction Ceremonies will take place
Sunday, May 30 at 2 p.m. in the NE Hall of Fame &
Classic Car Museum. The evening race program at
Cayuga County Fair Speedway will be highlighted by
the Hall of Fame 100, the third scheduled points
event in the Super DIRTcar Series for Big-Block
Modifieds.
Launching his career in the
Big-Block ranks in 1977, Hough became a household
name among the Small-Block racing fraternity in the
mid-1980s steering his familiar red #117 Modified
mounts. Scoring 60 DIRTcar victories from 1983-88,
the Bath, N.Y. speedster also racked up a half-dozen
track point titles at Dundee Raceway Park and
Woodhull Raceway, capturing the coveted overall Mr.
DIRT 320-Modified Championship in 1985. Along with
his wife Cindy, Hough took over ownership of Dundee
in 1995, renaming the Yates County oval to Black
Rock Speedway while providing a complete facility
upgrade that included new grandstand bleachers, VIP
Tower suites, lighting and lap counter as the track
was lengthened to a 4/10-miler.

Scott Bloomquist of
Mooresburg, TN passed race leader Dale McDowell of
Chickamauga, GA in turn four of the final lap as he
outsprinted McDowell to the checkered flag in
winning the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series
sanctioned March Madness race Sunday at Cherokee
Speedway. Randy Weaver of Crossville, TN crossed the
stripe in third followed by 16th starting Don O'Neal
of Martinsville, IN and Chris Madden of Gaffney, SC
rounded out the top five.
A wild first lap
saw Bub McCool and Ray Cook get together on the
backstretch with Cook suffering heavy damage to his
car. Cook went pit-side and fell several laps down
as his crew made repairs to the car. While the race
was under red outside front row starter Dan
Schlieper went to the pits for the night after fluid
began leaking out from under his car. So that put
Madden to the outside of polesitter John
Blankenship. The second time would be a charm to get
the race underway. Madden took the lead, followed by
McDowell, Blankenship, Chris Wall, and Johnny
Pursley. Wall, who was making his first appearance
at Cherokee, climbed to third on lap three as
Blankenship fell to fourth.
McDowell then
started to put the heat on Madden for the lead
pulling even with him on lap ten as the two crossed
the start-finish line. McDowell pulled ahead of
Madden on lap 11 as Wall maintained third. The
second caution of the race flew on lap 12 as McCool
slowed on the backstretch.

Saldana Grabs First of 2010 at
Thunderbowl. |
|
For many drivers,
picking up the first win of a new season is one of
the toughest feats to accomplish in racing. After
being victorious 21 times overall last season with
the World of Outlaws, Joey Saldana certainly knew
the way to the winners circle heading into 2010. He
came close to winning each of the first four races
this season, finishing in the runner-up spot in
three of those.
Saldana broke though in
a big way on Saturday night at Groppetti Automotive
Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, California before a
huge crowd to score his first A-Feature win of the
season to earn $10,000 in the 35-lap contest aboard
the Budweiser Maxim. It was the 60th A-Feature
triumph of his career with the World of Outlaws. |

Styres
Brothers Racing Grabs Another King of
the 360 Crown. |

Pennsylvania’s Tim
Shaffer was oh so close to completing a sweep of the
season-opening American Sprint Car Series Rebel
Region triple in “Kings” action at East Bay Raceway
Park’s 34th Annual Winter Nationals.
But,
when Shaffer’s engine soured less than two laps shy
of Saturday night’s checkered flag, it was Oklahoma
City native Wayne Johnson taking quick advantage to
snare the $14,500 winner’s share in the 40-lap Ninth
Annual Ronald Laney Memorial atop the semi-banked,
1/3-mile clay oval.
Johnson paced the final
two circuits to take the coveted checkered flag
aboard Glenn Styres’ Ohsweken Speedway/Rochester
Americans No. 0x entry, collecting his 32nd career
overall ASCS win in the process. |

Landis Musser Takes TUSA Mod Lite Win at
East Bay. |
|
Landis Musser of
Laurel, Del. barely made the starting grid for
the “B” Main in Thursday night’s TUSA Mod Lite
Winter Nationals. His front brake broke just
before the field took to the track and his crew
just shut off the brake line and sent him out.
Musser finished third to transfer to the “A”
Main starting in 24th spot. The only lap he
would lead was the important one as he took the
lead from Apollo, Pa.’s Rick Ament coming off
the final turn for the checkered.
