By JOHN DOUGLAS JR. Once again, the trailers pulled into the Utica Rome Speedway, not knowing what Mother Nature had in store for them. Heavy cloud cover and earlier rains guaranteed a very tacky surface for most of the night. With Utica Rome’s tendency to be a very slick surface by feature time, many of the regulars would again have to adjust to the rare conditions at the Vernon half-mile. A couple special treats awaited fans as Larry Wight brought his 99L 360 sprint to run some pre-Victoria weekend hot laps and former track announcer Shane Andrews made a stop…More

Sheppard spent the second half of the 100-lap event fighting lapped traffic, but his ability to deftly steer his FX Caprara/Xtreme Lubricants 9s around and between cars kept him out of reach of Johnson’s challenges. “I just wanted to run as hard as I could for 100 laps and try and get through the lapped traffic cleanly, but as quickly as I could too,” said Sheppard,…More
