Local Snowmobile and 4 Wheeler enthusiasts headed to Brighton Speedway on February 10th to race against each other on the iced up oval. The competition was fierce, and the weather cooperated since the first event during Winterfest celebrations in late January.
“We were really lucky that Winter came to the Northumberland/Quinte West region, and even more lucky that it stayed cold enough to keep the track in competitive condition for the return of the racers and their fans,” said track promoter Mark Rinaldi. “The sun shone and the temperature was consistent enough that everyone could enjoy a day of fresh air and competition!”
Rinaldi, a former Pro Stock Track Champion, braved the elements and headed out onto the track with his own sled. “I wanted to experience the track and see how it really felt to race on the slick surface. It is not easy! These guys, and girls, are not only brave, but they have to have the strength to maintain their position and keep the machines going forward around the turns and down the straight -aways. It was tough! I spun it a few times, but I would do it again!”
