Fultonville, NY: The Budget Sportsman Division will once again return to the Glen Ridge Motorsports Park in the 2007 season. Widely known as the Birthplace Of The Budget Sportsman, Glen Ridge will feature the more affordable division 24 times this season.
Their season will kick off on Sunday April 22nd with the regular season point opener. The first special event will be on Sunday June 17th and the running of the Fathers Day 30. The winner of this race will be a guaranteed starter for the Budget Classic 50 on Saturday September 8th, apart of the 4th Annual Thunder On The Mountain Weekend. The Mid Season Championships offering double points, will roll off on Sunday July 15th.
On Sunday August 5th twin 15 lap features will await the popular division. The following week will see at first at Glen Ridge The Topless In August event. On this night the division will have the option to run topless that is without a roof. All drivers who choose to remove the roof panels will receive 20 bonus points.
Sunday August 26th will be the date of the second Budget Classic 50 qualifier for the division. The Mohawk Valley 30 will offer one more guaranteed starting position for the September classic. The Montgomery County Labor Day Championships will take place on Sunday September 2nd, which will see the division go 30 laps.
The 4th Annual Thunder On The Mountain Weekend will see the Budget Sportsman compete on Saturday. The Budget Classic 50 will be a 50 lap, $500 to win affair. A full purse will be offered to all starters. All guaranteed starters must make a qualifying attempt in order to use their spot. Climax, New York driver Butchie Irwin won this event last season and will be looking to repeat.
The 2007 Track Championship will be decided on Sunday September 16th. In fact all regular divisions will crown their champions on this day, all apart of the Championship Sunday celebration. The season finale will be on Sunday October 14th and the running if the Cliff Hanger Finale.
We feel like our 2007 racing schedule is as strong as ever, stated Race Director Toby LaGrange. We started this budget non crate division and will continue to pioneer it in hopes of offering a less expensive way to drive modified type race cars.
It was announced at the annual Drivers and Owners Meeting that the division will run for $225 to win each week. At seasons end the track will pay the top ten in the final point standings. For a complete set of rules consult the official track website at www.glenridgemotorsportspark.com.
