Thorold, Ontario … The stakes continue to rise in the 2007 Lucas Oil Shoot Out for the Sportsmen Division and the season hasn’t yet begun!
After last month’s announcement of the inaugural Lucas Oil Challenge Cup to be held at the Brighton Speedway, promoters are already lobbying their drivers in an attempt to win hosting rights of a Lucas Oil Sportsmen Special to be held in the 2008 Season.
“We’ve offered any driver representing Humberstone $1,000 if they win the Lucas Oil Challenge Cup and bring it back to Port Colborne ,” revealed the lone Sunday Night promoter Bob Davidson at his recent Driver Meetings.
News travels real fast in the Southern Ontario and Western New York Racing Community and the other five track promoters involved in the second annual Lucas Oil Shoot Out aren’t about to be outdone.
“It’s definitely important to our fans for us to host the Lucas Oil Event in 2008,” relays Merrittville Speedway General Manager Erica Bicknell, adding, “ if a Merrittville Speedway Sportsmen driver brings the Cup home from Brighton … there’ll be $1000 Cash waiting for them when they bring it to Thorold .”
When announcing the details for the upcoming Lucas Oil Shoot Out for both the 358 Modifieds and Sportsmen – the enormous Lucas Oil Cup was unveiled and it will be contested for Friday September 21st between the top 20 drivers from the 2007 Point Standings in a major addition to the 5 track series.
“No doubt … it would be quite a highlight of our 50th Season,” prided Ransomville Speedway’s Jamie Friesen, “ if a Ransomville driver was to bring it back to Western New York … having the 2008 Event here would be quite a kickoff to our 2nd half century.”
Before the Shootout visits the Big ‘R’ it will already have made a visit to Western New York and the Genesee Speedway under the direction of first time promoter Mike Lauterborn.
“If it’s coming to New York next year,” challenged Lauterborn, “ the Lucas Oil Cup will find it’s home in Batavia … in my ‘rookie year … it would be quite an honor to present a Genesee Driver with $1000 after their Brighton Victory.”
Part of the Brighton Speedway Apple Fest Weekend, the September 21st event will carry a $7800 purse and while it is open to any Sportsmen race Team – the Top 20 Lucas Oil Shoot Out Drivers that make the trip to the Eastern Ontario track will be guaranteed to start somewhere in the top 20 at the neutral facility.
“That’s fine and dandy,” says Ohsweken Speedway’s Clint Geoffrey, “ our Shoot Out Event is in the middle and could play a huge part in setting up the top 20 … we’re more than happy to wager a $1000 as well that an Ohsweken driver will take the Checkered Flag at Brighton.”
With 77 different Sportsmen Drivers participating in the inaugural 2006 Lucas Oil Shoot Out presented by Dirttrackdigest.com – the return engagement is promising to provide great racing at each of the 5 participating tracks.
“What can we say,” informs DirtTrackDigest.com’s Adam Ross, “ Southern Ontario and Western New York race fans are in for a real treat … our hats off to Lucas Oil for their vision and support … local Dirt Racing is what we’re all about – we’re just as excited to see what excitement the second year brings”
