Officially, the 60th Anniversary Hagerstown Speedway schedule is underway, however, the only wheels that have turned so far have been when the Valley Mall at Hagerstown opened its doors on Tuesday night and a variety of race cars were pushed inside for the 22nd Annual Race–A–Rama car show.
The show was completed Friday evening following three nights of enthused race fans packing the mall, but not before the Little Miss Hagerstown Speedway contest was held and judging completed on the race entries.
A total of 19 participants were entered into the Little Miss contest, the most ever vying for the title and honor to represent the speedway each week in victory lane and at other functions such as the awards banquet at years end.
When the judges finished their tally on their votes, 10–year old Shiann Nichole Fries was the one receiving the crown for this year. Shiann is the daughter of 2006 late model sportsman champion, Andy Fries and Michelle Hartung. She is a fourth grader at Montgomery Elementary School in Mercersburg , PA. Her favorite sports are watching car races and cheerleading and of course, her favorite drivers are her father along with pure stock racer, Wayne Hawbaker and Matt Kenseth in NASCAR.
Danielle Wissinger of Hagerstown , a two time Little Miss graciously turned her crown over to Shiann for the upcoming year.
Brittany Keefer, 11 years old, and the daughter of pure stock racer, Kevin and Cheri Keefer of Greencastle , PA placed in the first runner up position and five year old Mariyah Scott of Hagerstown , the daughter of Tim and Amy Scott was the second runner up. The votes were so close that the top three were separated by only a point between each.
Trophy awards were presented to the three cars in each division but it was Hagerstown ’s Denny Bonebrake, a six time Hagerstown late model champion, who came out of retirement last season and added a pair of wins at Winchester , who won the Best of Show Award.
In the late models, the top three trophies went to Marvin Winters of McConnellsburg, PA, Moe Harden of Winchester , VA and Brian Booze of Marion , PA.
Late Model sportsman winners were Richard Walls of St. Thomas, PA, Terry Lescalleet of Marion , PA and Jerry Bard of Shippensburg , PA.
The pure stock winners were Mike Warrenfeltz and David Stouffer of Hagerstown and Kevin Keefer of Greencastle , PA.
Hagerstown Speedway would like to express their appreciation to the drivers, car owners and sponsors along with the parents of the Little Miss contestants who helped make the Race-A-Rama a success |
