Hagerstown Speedway’s 60th Anniversary season got under way with its 22nd Annual Race-A-Rama race car show this past week, but the scheduled opener featuring the late models in conjunction with the big block modifieds for 35-lap features didn’t materialize on Saturday, February 24th nor could Sunday’s make up day be used. Snow and sleet along with freezing temperatures below normal for the past few weeks took care of that.
The speedway will make another attempt at getting underway next Saturday, March 3rd, with the Octoberfest Qualifier program featuring late models and the Northeast big block modifieds. This is a 30-lap double feature program with winners receiving guaranteed starting spots for the Octoberfest scheduled for October 27-28. With last weeks cancellation of the opener which was the Syracuse qualifier, the modified winner will also reward himself with that guaranteed spot in the event set for mid October.
The small blocks will arrive on Saturday, March 10th for their attempt at gaining a guaranteed spot in the Octoberfest. Late models also are on the double feature 30-lap program.
Both late models and big block modifieds occupy the 30-lap program for Saturday, March 17th with the modifieds getting a final tune up for their upcoming DIRT event.
On Saturday, the 24th, the Grand Opening show for the weekly Hagerstown divisions; Cindy Rowe Auto Glass late models, Hoosier Tire late model sportsman and Ernie’s Enterprises V8 Pure stocks get their first opportunity to try out their cars before the championship points program begins in another two weeks.
The March finale on Saturday, the 31st will be the first evening program for the season and feature the Advance Auto Parts DIRT Series 100-lap big block modified event. Late models will also be on the program for a 25-lap feature. Gates open at 4:00 p.m. with warm-ups beginning at 6 p.m. and racing getting underway at approximately 6:30.
As a reminder, ALL shows are scheduled on Saturday with Sunday being used as a back up date for any weather related issues. This policy is in effect UNTIL March 24th. Warm-ups begin at 1 p.m. with race time approximately 1:30 p.m. Gates open at 11 A.M.
