FONDA, NY In 2007 the Track of Champions, Fonda Speedway will be celebrating their 56th year of competition with an exciting schedule that is sure to satisfy race fans of all ages.
It all starts with the annual car show on Friday, March 16 through Sunday, March 18 at the Rotterdam Square Mall.
The first race of the season will be held on Saturday, April 7 with the running of the annual 50-lap Ice Jam event. For the third time this race will be a Race of Champions (RoC) Tour event with the previous two races being won by defending 2006 Fonda Speedway Modified Champion Bobby Varin in 2005 and Mitch Gibbs who won his first ever big block modified event at Fonda last year in the Ice Jam event. A Pro Stock Open and warm-ups for all divisions are also on the opening day racing card.
The month of May begins with a regular show in all classes along with a 360 Sprint Open on Saturday, May 5. Previous winners in prior 360 Sprint Open events at Fonda include Brian Dumigan (2002), Mike Lutz (2003), Dan Kaszubinski (2004, 2005), and Jessica Zemken brought the house down with a win in the event last year.
The following week on Saturday, May 12 Kiddie Rides are a part of the racing program for the first time in many years.
The month of May ends with Veterans Night on Memorial Day weekend Saturday, May 26.
On Saturday, June 9, a regular show in all classes is on the racing card along with a Pro Stock Dash and the Midstate Vintage Stock Car Club.
Saturday, June 23 will be Student Night along with a regular show in all classes followed by a Giant Fireworks display to celebrate the upcoming July 4th Independence Day holiday.
A tribute to the past will be held with the Northeast Stock Car Old Timers (NESCOT) on Saturday, July 7 with a regular show in all classes also on the racing card.
The only midweek show of the season takes place on Tuesday, July 17 with a Modified Open along with a Race of Champions (RoC) Sportsman Tour event. The rain date for this event will be the following night Wednesday, July 18.
For the first time since 1994, the Empire Super Sprints will make an appearance at Fonda on Saturday, July 21. A regular show in all classes is also on the racing card that evening. Previous winners of ESS events at Fonda include John Brutcher (1987), Bobby Parrow (1991), Tom Taber (1992), and Craig Lane (1994).
The 2007 ESS Tour will be brought to you by Jacobs Motorsports and ESS Vice President Dean Reynolds said that you can expect to see defending ESS Champion Alain Bergeron, two time champion Lance Yonge, former DIRT modified stars Steve Poirier and Jason Barney, Jeff VanDusen, as well as local stars John Karklin Jr., Cory Sparks, Warren Alexson, and Jessica Zemken at the ESS event at Fonda.
On Saturday, August 11, a regular show in all classes is on the racing card along with the Atlantic Coast Old Timers (ACOT).
The 2007 regular season ends on Saturday, August 18 with the annual Night of Features, which will determine the 2007 Track Champions in all divisions.
The 2007 racing season will continue after the annual Fonda Fair on Sunday, September 16 with all classes in action on Open Night where drivers can run their cars to their home track specs. In the event of a rain out on Saturday, August 18, the Night of Features will be held instead of the open. It will also be Back to School Students Night.
The final weekend of the 2007-racing season will take place on Saturday and Sunday September 22 & 23. On Saturday, a 50-lap 358 Open will headline the racing program along with a 30-lap Sportsman Open, an IMCA Tour event, and a Street Stock Open along with the four cylinders. On Sunday the McDonalds 100-lap Race of Champions (RoC) Big Block Modified event will be held along with a Pro Stock Open.
Regular shows in all classes include the Modified, Sportsman, Pro Stock, IMCA, and Street Stock divisions. Please refer to the schedule on the official Track of Champions website www.fondaspeedway.com for starting times for all events.
**Updated Schedule>There was a conflict with the sprint open date on 5/5 so it is moved to 4/21. Also the Sportsman race in Sept is a ROC tour race and is on Sunday, with the Pro St open on Sat.
