Amsterdam, NY: Over 30 cars and venders set up shop in the Riverfront Center in Amsterdam for the first annual Glen Ridge Motorsports Park Car Show Saturday afternoon. Racers from the Modified, Budget Sportsman, Street Stock, Cruiser, Pro Stock and Slingshot divisions took part in the successful show.
A very large turnout of fans filed into the center during the show, exceeding expectations. “ We were very surprised at the number of race fans that came out today” stated track Race Director Toby LaGrange. “This turnout makes us more anxious to start the new season”.
Numerous awards were given out to participants. Budget Sportsman driver Angela Hoard not only won the drawing that was held for a free pit pass but the 50/50 raffle. The raffle netted her $130.
Veteran driver Ken Hanson was the first honoree. The former Tribes Hill Modified driver was honored the Dedication To Racing award. Making the presentation was LaGrange and Promoter Jerry Sampson Jr. Hanson has had health problems as of late and was greeted with a large ovation.
Glen Ridge gave out Best Appearing awards in all of the four regular racing divisions. Last seasons Rookie Of The Year - Jamike Sowle received the award in the Modified division. Broadalbin’s Doug Mathewson took top voting honors for the Budget Sportsman division. Mathewson’s machine was the car that sat on the pole for Super DIRT Week with driver Ray Dalmata back in the 1980’s.
The Street Stock award was given to Jason Samrov while the Cruiser award was earned by Johnstown’s Steve Clemons. The staff of the Glen Ridge Motorsports Park each voted on the winners of this award.
The Outside Groove Motorsports Radio presented the overall Best Of Show Award. Taking the large trophy was Modified divisional winner Sowle. This award was determined by a vote taken from all present media members.
