By Steve Pados

On Saturday night, March 3rd, Promoter Gary Palmer and his Family hosted a special night to honor all of their Champions for a very successful 2006 racing season at the Accord Speedway. The Hudson Valley Resort and Spa, located 10 minutes from the Speedway, played host to the gathering of nearly 500 attendees.

After enjoying appetizers and beverages, the attendees took to their seats to enjoy a fine dinner prepared by the Resort's master chefs. As dessert and coffee were being served, Master of Ceremonies for the Event, Brett Deyo took to the podium and began the season's journey at the Speedway with a highlight video that displayed all of the hard work Gary Palmer and his staff put into making Accord Speedway "The Action Track of the East."

Deyo did a fine job moving the ceremony along as all of the Awards from the Wednesday Night "Midweek Madness" series were presented by Promoter Gary Palmer. Awards for the many diverse racing classes were presented, and many youngsters took to the stage to receive their honors, highlighting the fact racing is alive and well within the youth ranks at the Speedway.

The 6 Friday Night Division Champions were then honored, and a racing video featuring the highlights of each division champion was displayed as the Champion received his hardware and points fund money. Bill Deak Jr was honored as the Pure Stock Champion. Lenny Brice honored as the Pro Stock Champion, Clint Roehrs in the Mini-Sprints, Mike Sabia in the Spec Sportsman Class, a tie for the Sportsman Title between Danny Creeden and Jamie Yannone, and the 358 Modfied Champion was Mike Ricci.

Awards for best appearing car in each division, hard luck, most improved, rookie of the year, and sportsmanship were presented throughout the awards ceremony. Many Special awards were presented as Joe Giacinta from Mid-Hudson Concrete was honored for his services to the track, and Keith Rowe was honored for his work with the Wednesday Night shows. A dedication to the Sport Award was given to former racer Rusty Creeden. Don Downes took to the stage to present the Rene Downes Award, and honored longtime 358 racer, Barry Davis with the award. Liz Roselli was honored for her work at the speedway with the Outstanding Woman Award. The Lifetime Achievement Award was bestowed upon Middletown Motorsports Promoter Ed Stevens for his outstanding work in racing. Longtime track announcer, Scott Harvey, who has been a fixture at the track since 1992, was honored for his dedication and longtime association with the speedway. Brett Deyo was honored for his 9 years of hard work and dedication, and bid farewell to the group as his new position at Area Auto Racing News will keep him from being part of the Speedway in 2007.

The Accord Speedway season will kick-off with a series of practice sessions slated for April 6th and 13th. There will be free spectator admission for the 2 practice sessions. The lid-lifter for the new season will be Friday night, April 20th, for all divisions, highlighted by a $2,000.00 to win prize for the 50 lap Modifed feature, presented by the Terra Nova Four Seasons Pizzeria.
