Ransomville, NY...Tuesday, March 6th, 2007....The annual
membership and registration meeting was held at the Ransomville Fire
Hall last Sunday afternoon. "These are the good old days," stated Ransomville
co-owner Joel Friesen. "As we celebrate our 50th consectutive season of
operation-car counts are amongst the highest ever with the best season
ever on the horizon for the big R."
A total of twenty-six 358 Modifieds registered for the upcoming
season. The Mighty Taco 358 Modified field is star studded with
defending champion Todd Burley, Mr. Smallblock Pete Bicknell, and Dirt
star Stewart Friesen leading the way. Additional local stand-outs of
Chad Brachmann, Scott Kerwin, Robbie Krull, Ricky Richner, and Scott
George are also listed amongst the registrants. The rookie crop is
strong as three of last years top Sportsman competitors have made the
move to the Modified ranks. Defending Sportsman champ Jeff McGinnis,
2005 champion Kevin Wills, and Dave Just have all moved up to the head-
lining division.
In the Original Pizza Log Sportsman division Jipp Ortiz and Don
Spatorico lead the list that is long and strong. In addition to these
drivers who enjoyed a total of ten feature wins last season-many others
from last year are also returning to competition in addition to six
rookies who registered this past Sunday. Young stars James Henry and
Steve Schumacher will doing weekly battle with veterans Tony Purgarich,
Dave Charczuk, and John Smith. Rookie contenders include Steve Miller
and John Panattoni-both who made the move from the ProStock ranks and
Mike Short and Derek Smith who moved up from the Streetstock division.
Tom Greene has returned after taking a few seasons off and Simon
Bissell is getting his first start at the big R via a Sportsman ride.
The Johnstons Restaurant Streetstock field is always strong and
2007 looks to be no different. Defending champion Roger Israel is back
in action along with son Jaren. These two always grace victory lane on
several occasions but will have their hands full as past champion and
streetstock star Alex Morris makes his return. Streetstock veterans
Brian Sparks, Nate Vetter, Webb Nashwinter, and Kenny Washburn are set
for weekly battle while Boots Martin is returning for his second season
in the full fendered ranks. Rookies include Alan Wills-son of Kevin
Wills, Derrick Borkenhagen, and Scott Criswell.
