KIRKWOOD, NY…Five Mile Point Speedway has added a special Spring 40 lap Modified event to the schedule for Sunday, March 25th. The race will feature the Modifieds in a 40 lap event that pays $2,000 to win. The Sportsman will also be in competition with race time set for 2:15 p.m.
After a busy weekend at the Motorsports Expo at the Syracuse Fairgrounds Five Mile Point Speedway owner Andrew Harpell made the decision to add the special event. He commented, “We had originally planned on running Southern Tier Open on April 1st but moved that date to April 15th to accommodate another speedway. We had a number of teams that indicated to us at the Syracuse car show that they were geared up to start racing and since our speedway is ready we decided to put this show together.” Harpell added, “We were fortunate to grade all of our snow off last week which has allowed the surface to dry up quickly.”
The Sunday, March 25th Spring 40 event for Modifieds will allow teams to run sail panels and any 92 x 13 inch tire. The rules will be identical to what will be allowed in the Southern Tier Open on Sunday, April 15th. The Sportsman teams will compete in a 25 lap event which will allow for any 92 x 13 inch tire to be used as well.
Anticipation of the 2007 Five Mile Point Speedway race season has been extremely high during the off-season. With the recent renovations and release of a thrilling 2007 racing schedule, race teams and spectators are looking for to a great season of action.
The Spring 40 event will compliment the already scheduled Southern Tier Showdown for Pure Stocks on Saturday, March 24th. On Saturday, March 24th an open practice for all divisions will be held beginning at 11 a.m. A racers swap meet will take place beginning at 10 a.m. and then at 3 p.m. the Southern Tier Showdown for Pure Stocks will be he held. The Lightning Cats and Figure 8’s will also be in competition on the 24th.
The Saturday open practice will be a tremendous plus for teams that will compete on the next day for the Modified Spring 40. The practice will be open to any divisions that will be competing at Five Mile Point Speedway this season.
The Southern Tier Showdown for Pure Stocks is set for Saturday, March 24th at 3:00 p.m. and the Spring 40 for Modifieds and Sportsman will go green on Sunday, March 25th at 2:15 p.m..
