ULMS Season Opener At End Of Month

Official Website  |  Posted by Late Model Editor  |  03/14/07

The 2007 United Late Model Series season opening event is less than three weeks away! The ULMS dirt late models will again try to open their schedule
with the “CHILLER THRILLER” at Vicki Emig’s, Mercer Raceway Park in Mercer, Pennsylvania on Saturday, March 31.

The United Late Model Series last appeared at Mercer during the inaugural “Chiller Thriller” in 2004 when David Scott captured the victory over a
strong 39-car field. The last two years’ events were cancelled by snow. The event will pay $2,000 to win this year and is expected to draw a strong
field of cars for the first weekend of racing in the Tri-State region. Drivers expected are, 2006 ULMS Rookie of the Year, Doug Ricotta, Brent Rhebergen, Dutch Davies, Dave Hess, Jr., Dick Barton and Greg Oakes. ULMS officials have been notified that Keith Barbara, Rodney Phillips and Jerry Redden will be on hand for this event. The Al Brewer racing team is going to attempt to make the trip to Mercer, as long as the family medical problems
that have plagued the family in the off-season will allow the team to travel. Bob Close will be looking to defend his 2006 ULMS title. Will he repeat?

Past Late Model winners at Mercer since 2002 include Keith Barbara, David Scott, and Alan Dellinger with two victories, and Dick Barton and Nick Jones with one win. According to Mercer Raceway, the legendary, Mr. Invitational, Bob Wearing, Sr. is the all-time Late Model winner at Mercer with five victories.

ULMS Director, Chris Zuver commented, “I am very excited to open the 2007 campaign at Mercer Raceway. We had a very successful event in 2004 and at the time it was the largest car count in series history till last fall. Mercer is a very fast track and the long winter is about over and I am
counting down the days till the ULMS teams and the rest of the late model racers from the tri-state region converge on Mercer for the “Chiller Thriller”.

The Chiller Thriller format will be as follows: Teams will draw for their heat positions, just as any ULMS event and the top twelve (12) teams will redraw for the main event. Their will be one ULMS provisional based on the top 20 of 2006 final ULMS points. There is no entry fee for the ULMS racers.

Pits gates open at 3:30 p.m. with grandstands opening at 4:30 p.m. Hot laps will begin at approximately 6:15 p.m. with heat races at 7 p.m. Adult admission is $15. Students 6-15 are $7. Children five and under free. The family pass is $35. Pit passes are $30
