(Pulaski, PA).With 70 degree weather, spring is on the way and of course racing season is drawing near. There hasn't been a hotter topic over the off-season than the FASTRAK Late Models. The new Northeast Region has certainly created a buzz that hasn't been seen in some time.
Founder Stan Lester returned to the area on March 10 to conduct seminars for tech officials and engine rebuilders, track promoters, and drivers. "The Northeast Region has certainly exceeded my early expectations," stated Lester. "It's all part of the vast acceleration of FASTRAK's growth that quite honestly has surprised me. I'm really pleased with how the Northeast is turning out without even a car on the track. Everyone is eager and looking forward to the start of the season."
Northeast Co-Directors Vicki Emig and Mike Leone have put together a minimum 15-race Touring Series that will currently take place at 10 speedways in four different states. The season will open at McKean County Raceway in East Smethport, Pa. on April 28 and is expected to conclude there on September 28.
"We're really pleased how the schedule came together," stated Leone. "With the $10,000 National event at Wythe Raceway in Virginia over Labor Day Weekend, Dog Hollow is looking at moving their show off their originally scheduled Sunday date. McKean County and Pittsburgh are still finalizing the details of their events. We've talked to a few other tracks about additional shows. A couple of the tracks are still finalizing their plans for the season. We should have an official schedule released in the coming weeks. All of the events are within a three-hour drive of our office."
The purses and entry fees for the Touring events were also announced Saturday. The purses are posted below. Entry fees are $50 for $1,200 to-win events, $75 for $1,500 to-win events, and $100 for $2,000 to $5,000 to-win events. The inaugural Northeast Touring Series Champion will earn $5,000 and will have a leg up on the competition toward the National Championship later in the year.
"We've gotten lots of calls from drivers interested in the Touring Series," said Emig. "As a car owner and speedway owner myself, I know the financial burden of supporting both and it's not easy pleasing everyone. I think we've come up with a structure that offers a fair purse for the racers, are affordable for the tracks to host events, and for fans to be able to see the region's best compete on basically an equal playing field. Of course I'm thrilled to be hosting the $5,000 to-win crown jewel at Mercer Raceway Park on July 4. Along with $5,000 going to the champion and payoff down through 10 spots at the end of the season, we have been hard at work gathering in contingences that already exceed $10,000 for the Series. We'll release more details next month."
A reminder to all drivers to please complete your membership forms as soon as possible and send them to FASTRAK Corporate. Membership forms are available for download at www.fastrakracing.com. Memberships must be paid and received to accumulate points both for the $1,000 weekly championships ($500 at non-Goodyear tracks), the Northeast Region Touring Series point fund, and the National Championship point fund. Membership is $95 for one track or the Touring Series, $150 for two tracks or one track and the Touring Series, or $200 for two tracks and the Touring Series. This will also save you time on opening night. Keep in mind that you do not have to be a FASTRAK member to race at any FASTRAK-sanctioned weekly or Touring Series event; however, you are ineligible to receive any point fund monies and compete at the National Championship.
