VERNON, NY- If the buzz surrounding the Utica-Rome Speedway’s display during this year’s edition of the Motorsports Expo, held in the Cargill Exhibit Center on the New York State Fairgrounds, is any indication of the upcoming 2007 race season then this season at the Vernon oval will be full of excitement.
With General Manager Dick Sweet manning the booth all weekend along with various other officials which included track owner Gene Cole, drivers in all divisions stopped by to have any concerns voiced and questions answered with many making their commitment to the speedway for this season. With the landscape of Dirt Modified racing in the northeast changing this season, many of the region’s top drivers are rethinking their weekend habits and looking to make Utica-Rome Speedway their weekly Sunday night home. With its modest purse increase in the 358-Modified division and $25,000 plus 358-Modified point fund, the Vernon speedplant has become very inviting to many drivers.
Two time defending 358-Modified track champion Willy Decker had his championship ride on display as did fellow 358-Modified competitor Paul Kinney. 2006 Sportsman champion Mike Button’s machine was on hand along with young Danny Varin’s mount.
Utica-Rome Speedway management would like to thank all the competitors that helped in making this year’s Motorsports Expo a success along with the fans who stopped by to show their support. Most of all, we would like to thank the Gater Racing News, namely the Patrick family, for putting on this great annual event.
