Weedsport, NY – March 24, 2007 – By Tom Skibinski, DIRTcar Racing PR Director
A special practice day has been scheduled at Cayuga County Fair Speedway on Saturday, April 7 and an open invitation has been extended for all area media members to attend. Afternoon activity begins with a media luncheon at 12:30 p.m. in the track clubhouse located directly behind the main covered grandstand. Fans are invited to enjoy the free grandstand admission when the cars take to the high-banked 3/8-miler for hot laps from 1-5 p.m.
“This is what we’ve been waiting for: to see, hear and feel race cars on the track again. It’s a great opportunity for the fans and local media to preview their stars before the season championship drive begins,” said DIRTcar Racing NorthEast General Manager Jack Deery, who serves in the same capacity at Central New York core tracks Cayuga County Fair Speedway, Rolling Wheels Raceway and Canandaigua Speedway. Deery, as well as Competition Director Jeff Farney will be on hand to answer questions throughout the day. “There has been a huge influx of younger racers over the winter months. This will be a terrific chance for the media to focus on this new generation of heroes, as well as the veterans. This year we want to focus on telling every one of their stories, their goals – the human interest aspect of our racers.”
The gates swing open at Cayuga County Fair Speedway to welcome the 53rd season of short-track racing in Weedsport. Cars take to the track for the first time on Sunday, April 1 with the non-stop “No Foolin’ 188” Enduro leading off the action. The Fairgrounds will be dark on Easter Sunday while a full show of Big-Block Modified, Sportsman Modified, Street Stock and Enduro racing fills the April 15 card.
During the Saturday afternoon affair members of the media in attendance can pick up a press packet filled with newsworthy notes and season schedules along with track stats for Cayuga County, Rolling Wheels and Canandaigua, then visit the CCFS pits for exclusive photo opportunities and one-on-one interviews with many of the drivers signed in for practice. A highlight of the day’s activities will be the opportunity to take a fast ride around the Weedsport oval in a spec DIRT Modified.
The day of practice at Cayuga County also allows additional time for racers to fill out 2007 DIRTcar license application forms, obtain season pit passes, acquire AMB i.t. transponders and purchase or rent out RACEceiver radios.
To reserve a clubhouse seat at Cayuga County’s Media Day, press members are encouraged to contact as soon as possible DIRTcar Racing PR Director Tom Skibinski by phone 315/834-6606 x28 or e-mail media@dirtmotorsports.com.
