Twenty Days until URC opener at Bridgeport.

TWENTY DAYS UNTIL URC SEASON OPENS AT BRIDGEPORT SATURDAY, APRIL 14

The 60th season for the URC Bar's Leaks Sprint Series will kickoff at the Bridgeport Speedway on Saturday night, April 14 with race time set for 6 PM. For the United Racing Company, 2007 marks a very special year as the Nation's oldest traveling sprint car organization will launch their 60th season.

In the fifty-nine year history of URC, this popular sprint car group has presented over one-hundred and thirty events at the Bridgeport Speedway. In fact, Bridgeport Speedway is ranked second for presenting the most URC events from a total of one-hundred and thirty-seven different tracks that URC has visited. The top five tracks presenting URC shows (in order) are Delaware International, Bridgeport, Flemington, Grandview and the Orange County Fair Speedway. In total, URC has presented over 1,375 events.

The URC opener will use an open draw to determine the starting line-up. Heat race events, a "B" Main and the CnB Mushroom 25 lap URC season opener will pay an attractive $2,500 to win. CnB Mushrooms has added and additional $1,000 to the purse for the season kickoff event.

Competition in URC is expected to reach an all time peak in 2007. So who's in the chase? Trevor Lewis of Upper Black Eddy, PA will certainly be a force for the title chase, driving a Scott McClaren owned team car. A team mate to Lewis, Ed Aikin will also be in the run for the $10,000 to win URC Championship. Brian Seidel of Allentown, PA and driver of the Bill Gallagher 5g will be looking for his second URC championship. A strong team to consider was the merging of Milford, DE driver Greg Coverdale and car owner Kenny Eldreth. Coverdale was the URC Champion in 1994 and owns forty-seven career URC wins.

Female racer Mares Stellfox owns three career URC victories, winning two of those features in 2006. Last year, Stellfox earned a $3,000 bonus for winning a feature after qualifying through the "B" Main. Stellfox accomplished this in one of the twin 20 lap features at the Penn Can Speedway.

One of the big stories of 2007 is defending Champion Curt Michael. Michael is a four time URC Champion, winning the title the last three years. If Michael should make it four titles in a row, he becomes only the third driver in URC to achieve such an accomplishment. Earl Halaquist won four titles in a row from 1966-1969 and Glenn Fitzcharles won four consecutive titles from 1987 to 1990.

Other 2007 "hot teams" include Dave Ely, 2006 URC Rookie of the Year Davey Sammons, Scott Pursell, 410 driver Michael Carber, Kramer Williamson, Kevin Welsh, Brook Weibley, Mark Bitner, Junior Martin in the Bar's Leaks sprint car and Jason Clauss just to name a few.

URC is offering a great 2007 schedule to include some of the best facilities in the Northeast. Joining Bridgeport Speedway on the schedule is Delaware International, Big Diamond, New Egypt, Selinsgrove, Williams Grove, Lincoln, Grandview, Orange County, Hagerstown and the Rolling Wheels Raceway.
