The Spring Southern Tier Showdown for Pure Stocks was postponed on Saturday at Five Mile Point Speedway. It has been rescheduled for next Saturday, March 30th. Open practice will begin at 12 noon and racing will go green at 4:30 p.m. next Saturday. The Modified Spring 40 and Sportsman event scheduled for Sunday has been cancelled and will not be rescheduled.
The open practice that was held at the speedway on Saturday was very promising as the speedway surface began to really take shape. The speedway took some time to get worked in but once it came together it was super fast and ready to go for the racing program. Heavy rains swept through the area late in the day and put a halt on the Saturday racing program as the pits began to fill with competitors.
Due to the heavy Saturday rains the pit and parking areas became unmanageable and over saturated. This forced the cancellation of the highly anticipated Modified Spring 40 and Sportsman event. No date is available for this event to be made up. The next Modified event will be the 14th annual Southern Tier Open for Modifieds along with the Race of Champions Sportsman tour on Sunday, April 15th.
The top local Modified teams were slated to take on a number of top invaders that included Pat Ward, Frank Cozze, Alan Johnson and many others. The cancellation of this event will certainly create tremendous anticipation for the April 15th Modified Southern Tier Open.
Five Mile Point Speedway owner Andrew Harpell stated, We were extremely excited about how well the speedway surface came around my mid afternoon. We worked very hard on the surface all day and it was really paying off until the rains ultimately ended our efforts.
The Spring Southern Tier Showdown for Pure Stocks will take place next Saturday, March 30th at 4:30 p.m. Any teams that were not in attendance this past Saturday are welcome to participate in this event next weekend.
