HARTFORD, Ohio (March 27, 2007) - Packed with great weekly racing and special events, Sharon Speedway's 2007 season will provide area fans with nearly six months of exciting, dirt slinging entertainment.
Sharon's Fantastic Five divisions will provide the bulk of the season's excitement with 18 competitive nights of racing. Special events will include visits by the World of Outlaws Sprint Series, the 360 OTC World of Outlaws Late Model Series, the USAC National Sprint Car Series and the BRP Modified Tour.
The 2007 season will kick off on Saturday, April 21, with the opening night of points racing in the Fantastic Five divisions - 410 Sprints, V8 Modifieds, Pure Stocks, Emods and Limited Sprints (formerly Green Flag Sprints). The 18-week Fantastic Five points competition will end on Saturday, Sept. 1. Many "extras" are planned for Fantastic Five nights throughout the season, including a super slingshot night, Mother's and Father's Day celebrations, a powder puff race to raise money for a local family, push truck drag races, fireworks, driver autograph sessions, beach night, Christmas in July, driver relay races and the third installment of the Faster Pastor race. Kids Crew meetings - bigger and better than ever - will be back again this year for young race fans in kindergarten through fifth grade.
"Our weekly races are a great source of family entertainment," said Dave Blaney, Sharon Speedway co-owner. "We have some of the best drivers around who always provide close, exciting competition, and we add in a lot of fun, interactive things for the fans to do. We' think our weekly shows are a great value."
In addition to great weekly racing, the 2007 season will feature several special events. The World of Outlaws Sprint Series will return to Sharon Speedway on Friday, June 1, with all of the world's greatest sprint car drivers back together. Fans can once again see "King of the Outlaws" Steve Kinser, Danny "the Dude" Lasoski, Jac Haudenschild, Donny Schatz, Joey Saldana and Chad Kemenah go head-to-head on the 3/8-mile oval. Pure Stocks also will be on hand to provide some great wheel-to-wheel racing.
The 360 OTC World of Outlaws Late Model Series will pull into Sharon Speedway on Saturday, July 28, for an action-packed evening. Fans will see the nation's best Late Model drivers, like Darrell Lanigan, Rick Eckert, Chub "Chubzilla" Frank, Steve Francis, Josh Richards and Clint Smith, do battle. The area's top Emod drivers also will compete that evening.
A month later, for the first time, the USAC National Sprint Car Series will visit Sharon Speedway. Drivers who will pilot the wingless sprints around the track include 2006 Champion Josh Wise, Levi Jones, Dave Darland, Darren Hagen and Mat Neely.
The drivers of the BRP Modified Tour will return to Sharon Speedway on Saturday, Sept. 8, for the 22nd annual Russ King Memorial. Racers like Rex King, Brian Swartzlander, Russell King and Del Roujeux Jr. will be kicking up the dirt for 35 laps on Sharon's 3/8-mile oval.
Special event seats are currently on sale and can be purchased by calling the speedway ticket office at 330-772-1186 Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., or online at www.sharonspeedway.com. In an effort to make a family night at the track more affordable, Sharon Speedway has significantly reduced kids' ticket prices for special events this season. A general admission ticket for kids ages 6-13 is just $5 this year, with reserved seats just $2 more. Children five and under are admitted free. Adult (14 and older) advance general admission seats for the June 1 World of Outlaws Sprint Series event and the 360 OTC World of Outlaws Late Models race on July 28 are $25, with reserved seats just $2 more. Adult general admission tickets purchased in advance for the Aug. 25 USAC National Sprint Car Series event are $18, with reserved seats just $2 more.
Tickets for Sharon Speedway's weekly events will be available at the gate and remain the same price as last year - $11 for adults (16 and older), $5 for kids (12-15) and free for children 11 and younger.
New for this season, Sharon Speedway is offering the "Two for $2" program during each night of Fantastic Five points racing. Fans who bring two non-perishable food items for the Second Harvest Food Bank to the track will receive $2 off the price of an adult general admission ticket. A representative will collect the food outside the gate from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. only. Everyone who donates two food items will receive a $2 coupon to present at the ticket window, bringing the price of an adult general admission ticket to just $9. All non-perishable food items are accepted, but canned meats, canned vegetables, tuna fish and peanut butter are needed most.
