St. Catharines, ONT…The 2007 edition of the BRP CanAm Series will go green at 4PM on Saturday April 7 at Black Rock Speedway in Dundee, NY. Dean Hoag will open the gates at 2PM for a blockbuster Black Rock season opener that will include the BRP CanAm Late Models, DIRTCar Sportsman, and street stocks.
Race fans can look forward to a star studded BRP CanAm field that will include a rich mix of touring BRP CanAm teams and Black Rock racers. All have stepped up their programs in an effort to stop Mr. Excitement – Jeremy Wonderling’s strangle hold on Black Rock’s victory circle. Wonderling, a second generation race car driver from Scio, NY, became a weekly racer at Black Rock last year. It was love at first sight! He won ten times in weekly competition, the 2006 BRP CanAm opener and the season ending $10,000 late model / super stock open at the fast Yates County race place.
Wonderling’s 2006 Shaw Grand Prix has been refurbished by Ed Carley and has a belly full of a fresh Bill Campbell 360 Chevy. The beauty is just off the car show circuit and ready to go to work.
Randy Hall, the 2006 BRP CanAm Champion and FOAR Score Driver of the Year, has just reloaded his Joel Smith massaged CRS Camry with a new [Jerry] Fox Race Engines built 360 Chevy. Hall has gone to Fox in Indiana, PA in search of more fire power since he knows there are a couple of dozen others that are anxious to wear the 2007 BRP CanAm crown.
Larry Knowles is a former Black Rock champion who now focuses his racing energy on the BRP CanAm Series. Knowles was runner-up to Wonderling in the first Black Rock Series event and won his first ever Series A-Main at Black Rock last September. Knowles’s CAT Rental Stores 2006 CRS Monte Carlo is powered by a Ron’s Engine Science piece. The Knowles race team has spend untold hours in the shop during the “off season” prepping to improve on their third place Series standings in 2007.
Black Rock weekly racers that have updated their stables with 360 late models in an effort to stop Wonderling and make some noise in the Series include Quinn Sutherland, Bob Buono, and Sparky Hills.
Sutherland has a 2007 Lazer Monte Carlo out of Jim Bernheisel’s Lebanon, PA. Buono has a Pro Speed Rocket Monte Carlo and Sparky Hills has a 2007 CRS Monte Carlo.
A very solid core group of returning BRP CanAm teams, a star studded group of about 20 Series rookies, and an anxious bunch of Black Rock weekly racers should make for a great day at the races. Hold on to your seats they are about to go green!
All of the race teams will have a chance to break in their new cars and / or new engines in a practice session at Black Rock Speedway on Friday April 6. Gates will open at 2PM and the track will open at 6PM for practice night.
