Fonda Ice Jam to Open 2007 ROC Dirt Modified Tour Sat., April 7th.

BINGHAMTON, NY…The 2007 Race of Champions Dirt Modified Tour goes green this Saturday at the Fonda Speedway with the running of the annual Ice Jam event. The 50 lap Modified event will pay $4,000 to the winner. Race time is scheduled for 1 p.m. this Saturday afternoon, April 7th.

How important has the annual Fonda Ice Jam been to the Race of Champions Dirt Tour teams? Just ask Bobby Varin and Mitch Gibbs. In each of the last two Race of Champions Dirt Tour Ice Jam events at Fonda, the race winner has eventually gone on to win the North Regional title as well.

In 2005 Bobby Varin recorded the first ever R.o.C Dirt Modified Tour win with the Ice Jam victory. He went on to sweep the entire North Region by recording four victories that season. He ultimately wound up in a tie for the overall championship with Mitch Gibbs. Last year Mitch Gibbs drove the Lance Kenyon big block to victory lane in the Ice Jam and like the year prior, Gibbs went on to win the North Regional title. Gibbs eventually would fall just eighteen points short of Alan Johnson in winning the overall championship.

If past history is any indication you can be assured the racing will be nothing short of spectacular this Saturday at Fonda Speedway. Starting off strongly on the R.o.C Dirt Modified Tour has certainly proven to be advantageous in the past. Another stellar field of the top Modified stars is once again expected. The past two years have seen the Fonda pit area jammed with just under sixty Modified teams for each Ice Jam.

The 2007 R.o.C Dirt Modified Tour once again looks to be ultra competitive. Defending tour champion Alan Johnson will be joining the Jake Spraker owned team for the Fonda Ice Jam. He will team up with defending Fonda Track Champion Bobby Varin for the season opener. Varin will be looking to lead the way for the two car team as he has set the goal of becoming the first two time R.o.C Dirt Modified Tour overall champion.

R.o.C Dirt Modified Tour Director Andrew Harpell remarked, “Fonda Speedway is traditionally one of the toughest tracks for an outsider to win at on the entire tour.” He added, “The local weekly talent at Fonda is among the most competitive anywhere in Modified racing – we always look forward to the Ice Jam event.”

The 2007 Race of Champions Dirt Modified Tour officially goes green this Saturday at the Fonda Speedway for the running of the annual Ice Jam. The 50 lapper will pay $4,000 to the winner.
