Temperatures are expected to dip into the mid-twenties on Friday night on the Delmarva Peninsula forcing Georgetown Speedway promoter Lou Johnson to postpone the 2007 season opener. The First State speed plant will now open the season on Friday April 13 with the Big Block Modifieds headlining the nights racing card. The sleek and fast Super Late Models will return to headline the night of action on April 20.
The Big Block Modifieds will be joined by the Crate Late Models and Crate Modifieds for a night of wheel to wheel action. Gates will open at 5 pm with hot laps set to get underway at 7 pm. The first green flag will drop on heat races beginning at 7:35 pm. Admission is just $12 for adults with kids 12 and under admitted free with a paying adult.
Georgetown Speedway General Manager David Brown and Promoter Lou Johnson announced that the drivers will be competing for the highest paying point fund in the history of Georgetown Speedway. The Super Late Models, Big Block Modifieds, and two Crate classes will all do battle to get a piece of the prize that will distributed at the end of the season.
The drama was there for racing last year but adding points will give the fans a championship battle to cheer for as the season winds down, remarked Brown.
Racers competing at the Georgetown Speedway are reminded that they must run an American Racer 44 or a Hoosier 1300 or D15 on the right rear only. All cars must be equipped with a working RaceCeiver.
Georgetown Speedway, a ½ mile dirt oval track, is located on U.S. Route 113, just 35 miles south of Dover , DE . The speedway is just a short 45 minute drive from Ocean City and just a bit longer from Washington DC , Baltimore , and Philadelphia .
