FONDA SPEEDWAY POSTPONES ICE JAM TO SATURDAY APRIL 14
By: Ron Szczerba
FONDA, NY – Race fans will have to wait one more week for the 2007 season opener at the Track of Champions as the cold, wet, and overall miserable forecast for the next few days in the northeast has put a halt on this weekends event. The 40-lap, $4,000 to win event will now take place on Saturday, April 14 with warm-ups starting at noon and racing at 1:00 p.m.
“We wanted to notify everyone early about the postponement,” promoter Ric Lucia said. “We wanted to do what was best for both the spectators and the competitors. With the cost of fuel and the poor long term forecast we didn’t want to see people inconvenienced by waiting any longer to make the decision.”
Race of Champions Dirt Modified Tour director Andrew Harpell agreed with the decision made by Fonda Speedway management on Thursday afternoon. “With the eminent bad weather forecasted for this weekend this is the best decision for everyone involved,” Harpell said. “We are excited to have the opportunity to reschedule the event for Saturday, April 14.”
The sportsman, pro stock, and street stock divisions will also open their season on Saturday, April 14 as points will begin on that day in those divisions towards the 2007 Track Championships. Modified points will start the following week on Saturday, April 21. The Pro Stock Open that was scheduled for this Saturday has been cancelled.
The Fonda Futures Kid’s Club will also have their annual Easter Egg Hunt during the intermission on Saturday, April 14.
A regular show in all divisions along with a 360 Sprint Open will take place as scheduled on Saturday, April 21 with the IMCA division opening up their point chase that day.
