Susquehanna, PA…Penn Can Speedway promoters Al Wilcox and Reed Miller are excited to announce the return of the Spring 125 Opening Night special at the Susquehanna County oval. The original date has been rescheduled to Friday evening April 20, 2007 with gates opening at 5:00 with racing at 7:15. Once again this season the Spring 125 will offer special events for three of the competing divisions at the speedway. This year’s edition will feature Penn Can Speedway’s three open wheeled divisions competing in extra distance feature events plus qualifying events.
The mighty modifieds will begin the season with the first of four special combination events with Five Mile Point Speedway. This mini series will carry its own point system plus a set of special awards and a point fund. This series is intended to feature the best teams in the northern tier of Pennsylvania and the southern tier of New York. The spring opener will be a fifty lap feature event paying an increased purse.
The second special attraction of the Spring 125 at Penn Can Speedway will be the return of the Race of Champions Sportsman for a southern region event. This too will be a fifty lap special event with the new ROC Sportsman purse structure. For the last two seasons, the ROC Sportsman have put on a great show whenever they run at the speedway. Last season Willie Osmun won the spring ROC race at Penn Can and went on to finish third in the Southern Region. With the other ROC participating speedways idle this night, a great field of sportsman are expected.
The IMCA modifieds will fill out the field for a special 25 lap feature event. Originally this race was scheduled to be one of the first Empire State Series races. Unfortunately because of the schedule change to Friday night, the Empire race has been rescheduled to Tuesday July 3rd and this race will be a regular IMCA event. The IMCA modifieds will compete in four events at the speedway again in 2007.
Regular Friday night racing will begin the following Friday, April 27th. All divisions will be in competition including the modifieds, late models, sportsman, super stocks, pure stocks, and the new four cylinder stocks. Gates will open at 5:00 with racing at 7:15.
