JETMORE, Kan. (April 11, 2007) Dodge City, Kan., will host the inaugural Steve King Memorial Race, Saturday, May 5, at 7 p.m. at Dodge City Raceway Park. The night will include National Championship Racing Association (NCRA) Sprint Car Series vs. American Sprint Car Series (ASCS), plus stocks and modifieds.
King had run primarily in the NCRA and ASCS circuits before his death in August 2006 after injuries sustained at the Knoxville Nationals in Knoxville , Iowa . His accomplished career, which started in 1989, included 17 NCRA Sprint Car feature victories and two NCRA Sprint Car Series championships.
Funds raised during the race will benefit the Steve King Foundation and the Steve King Fund.
The Steve King Foundation has been established to help people involved in racing across the country by providing aid to racecar drivers, pit crew members, racing officials, track operations personnel or the immediate families of those individuals who are injured or killed while participating in dirt track racing. The foundation will also contribute to organizations and facilities dedicated to improving the safety of the sport.
The Steve King Fund has been established as part of the Hodgeman County Community Foundation to help residents of Hodgeman County .
Steve King Foundation t-shirts, silicon bracelets and the CD Eighty Eight A Tribute to Steve King by Ben Bolling will be available for purchase during the race.
The Foundation has applied for 501(c)3 status, making all donations tax deductible.
