Accord, NY - Accord Practice Session a Big Success
Accord Media: Steve Pados
Sunny skys, mild winds, and nice weather greeted more than 100 racers as Accord Speedway was finally able to host what will be the track's only practice session to allow the race teams to dial in their race cars prior to the start of the new racing season, beginning next Friday, April 20th.
All divisions of racing at the speedway were well represented and the pit area had many new faces, who will be making Accord their place to race for the 2007 season. The track, though choppy in spots, held up fairly well despite the heavy amount of rain that has been plaguing the area recently. The drivers were able to record some quick laps with some great side by side action keeping the nice crowd on hand, buzzing about the great racing they anticipate this year.
Next Friday, April 20th, the Palmer Family will kick-off their 7th year at the controls of Accord with racing for all divisions, sponsored by TerraNova Four Seasons Pizzeria, and highlighted by a 50-lap Modified feature, paying $2,000.00 to the winner.
Accord will open the pit gates at 4:30 and the spectator gates at 5 PM. Hot laps will begin at 6:30 and the racing is set to begin at 7 PM. Admission will be $12 for Adults, $10 for Seniors (65+), $8 Juniors (ages 10-15), $1 Kids (9 and under). The new indoor seating area will be $18 (Adults and Seniors) and $12 (All Kids)

MUDPLUGS:
New and reburbished race cars dotted the speedway pit area as cars arrived throughout the day to shake down the equipment.
Jackie Brown Jr arrived at the speedway with two identical, sharp looking 6X's at his disposal. Tri-State Hardwoods, Awesco Welding Supplies, JG Logging and Captain Hook are new sponsorship additions to the team. New Spec Sportsman campaigner Amanda House took her first turn at the wheel driving a sharp looking number 80.
Robbie Green shook down the New York Truck Parts numbered 55 Modified and really had the car dialed in by the last practice session. Robbie is looking for good things from this new combination. Tommy Johnson, a 14 year old rookie racing with the Pure Stocks, wasted no time in thanking his sponsors, Let's Ride Motorsports, Tom's Auto Repair, and Bill Dietz Tree Service for allowing him the opportunity to race this year.
Danny Tyler brought in two cars, his 22 from last season, and a new 97T, numbered in tribute to former speedway great Art Tyler. Danny had both cars on the money in just a few laps around the speedway. Ray See Jr had a sharp looking number 4 that will be seeing Sportsman action, but also jumped in the number 5 Vintage Gremlin of his Dad's and turned some quick laps in that racer as well.
Kerhonkson's Jeremy Quick had two cars on hand, one the 72 Spec Sportsman he will campiagn on a weekly basis at Accord, the other a CSRA 305 Sprint Car he will race as time permits. Another Rookie, Greg Plumstead. a 14 year old, and a graduate from the Quads last year, turned his first laps in a full size race car. Jason Thew, had a Liberty Rock Crushing 24 car in the pit area.
Rich Ricci Jr had two cars at his disposal, one a 406 numbered Big Block, the other the 55 car that will be his regular ride at the Speedway this year. "The Iceman" Dom Roselli, turned in some quick times, but was still seeking some more from his always immaculate numbered 80 machine. Kevin Duryea had the M&K sponsored machine working well, and has added A1 Fuels and Enviro Clean to his list of sponsors for 2007.
Rick Mill did some quick times in an unlettered 73, and Scott Ferrier looked strong in the Orange Energy Sponsored 20. Mike Ricci and the Thew Crew headed up by Tommmy Ryan, broke a right rear rotor in one of the early sessions, made the needed repairs, and went back out and turned perhaps the quickest times of the day.
The Pro Stocks of Scott Mill, Pat Zimmer, Mark Lathrop, Larry Temple Jr and Bill Deak Sr and Jr all seemed to get around the track quite well. Charlie Swartz Jr, coming off two year layoff, had his 67A out with Sponsorhip provided by DYAL Carting and Al's Garage. Invader Scott Lias, who has won races just about everywhere, shook down his new mount, and hopes to find some time to spend at Accord in 2007.
The Pure Stocks were out in full force with Bill Judge, and Bill Rion getting around well. Bill Merton debuted a new nmbered 98 Nova. Mike Deyo has some new 2007 sponsorship in the form of Showalter Equipment. |
