West Lebanon, NY - The chilling temperatures weren’t enough to keep the
Valley fans from their 55th Season Opener, or enough to keep Brett ‘the
Jet’
Hearn from taking his first season opener at the Valley of Speed.

There was no doubt that the high banks were going to get the 55th lid
lifter
underway, and it was just a matter of time that the Jett got to victory
lane.

L&M Motors and Wentworth construction presented the nights racing,
along
with Heavy Hauler. The big Block modifieds took to the speedway first
for
their 30 lap opening point night event.

On the pole was the #88d of Ronnie Dwyer, but it was very short lived,
as
the car came to stop in turn two during the warm up laps, and he never
was
able to return.

When the green finally flew, it was obvious who the contenders were
going to
be, as J.R. Heffner charged from the 5th starting spot to take over the
point by lap 3. But deep in the field, the Wentworth Construction #20
of
Hearn had moved from the 12 starting spot, up to 5 in just 5 laps. By
lap9,
Hearn moved past the #43 of Keith Flach, and set his sights on the A.
Callarusso and Sons #74 of Heffner.

Deeper in the field, returning legend to the High banks, the #88L of
Dickie
Larkin was battling wheel to wheel with the #98 of Eddie Marshall, and
the
#115 of Kenny Tremont. Also among the valley regulars was a new comer
to
the Valley of Speed. Altamont, NY’s Jeff Tromley driving his familiar
#21j,
decided to make Lebanon Valley his home for 2007.

Back at the front of the field, Heffner was beginning to reach lap
traffic
by lap 16. Hearn mounted a steady challenge, reeling in the #74 little
by
little, so that by lap 22, Hearn got by the #74, and took over the top
spot,
and never looked back.

At the checkers, it was Hearn, followed by Heffner. Third was the #43
of
Flach, followed by #20 of Matt Quinn, and the #34 of Steve Hough.
Notables
were Wayne Jelley 6th, Kenny Tremont 8th, Jeff Trombley 12th, and Andy
Bachetti 13th.

Also on the night, there was plenty of action for the Pro Stocks,
Limited
Pro Stocks, and the Pure Stocks.

The pro Stocks took to the Valley of Speed next with plenty of
excitement.
At the green flag, it was the #315 of Jon Routhier. That was all that
was
needed for Routhier, as he took off and checked out on the field. Even
with
several cautions for spins, and an occasional blown motor, there was no
stopping the #315 from taking the checkers.

At the checkers, it was Routhier, followed by the #78 of Paul
LaRochelle.
Third across the line was the #26 of Don Carlson, followed by #38m of
Mike
Middleton, and the #24 of Robbie Speed.

The Limited Pro Stocks saw the #17 of Nick Hilt take the win in their
15 lap
event.

The Pure Stocks were also on tap as they had nearly 40 cars on tap,
divided
into 3 events. The winners were; PS#1 – Matt Humes, PS#2 – 2006
Champion
Pete Wiegand, PS#3 – John Chapman.

The 4 cylinders were also in attendance, as exciting last lap battle
ended
with the third place car of Marty Poole taking the victory in their 15
lap
shootout in the ‘Dual Cam’ class, and in the ‘Single Cam’ class, it was
Jim
Williams .

Next Saturday, Callanan Industries and Contractor Sales present Opening
Night for the Sportsman division, including all classes.
