Accord, NY - Opening Night, Accord Set To Go Green, 2 G's Awaits Winner
Steve Pados, Accord Media

Everything is in order and ready to go as Accord Speedway prepares to go racing this coming Friday night, April 20th. The season opener will mark the 7th season the Palmer Family has been at the controls and the 45th season of racing at the Ulster County 1/4 mile bullring. The Palmer Family has been working non-stop on the track and it's facilities in preparations for what is expected to be a banner season for the management team.

The weather picture is expected to be free and clear from the many storms the area has been suffering from of late.
All divisions will take part in the season opener, and opening night is sponsored by the TerraNova Four Seasons Pizzeria and the evening will be highlighted by a 50 lap feature event for the Modifieds paying $2,000.00 to win.

From last week's practice session, it appears all divisions will have some fierce competition within the ranks, and much of the attention will be focused on the Modified division as rules allowing the Big Blocks to compete, were met with great interest, and will bring in some new faces to try their hand at the speedway. Big Block powered cars must weigh in at 2500 pounds, 2004 DIRT legal 358 cars must weigh 2400 pounds, and all other combinations must weigh 2600 pounds to fit within the new rules. Modified Track Champion Mike Ricci will be in action as he prepares to defend his title, and he will receive strong competition from brother Rich, Robbie Greene, Jackie Brown, Dom Roselli, Andy Bachetti, John McGill, Mel Shrufer, and a host of others all looking to pass under the checkered flag first.

In addition to the new indoor seating area and the new VIP Tower, Promoter Gary Palmer has announced plans for a newly designed Winners Circle with high density lighting and a TV type broadcasting booth for the Winners Circle. Driver interviews from all divisions will greet the fans arriving at the racetrack early. Race night sponsors and VIP guests will be included with the new interview area, as Promoter Gary Palmer seeks to give as much recognition as possible to the drivers, owners and sponsors who support this gem in the Catskills.

Pit Gates will open on the 20th at 4:30, Spectator gates will open at 5 PM. Hot Laps will take pace at 6:30 and the season will kick off at 7. The new season will punctuate the hard work and effort the Palmers have put into the faciltiy, offering the best in dirt short track racing.
