VERNON , NY- As the Utica - Rome Speedway was already struggling with the extremely wet spring conditions when preparing the track for the April 22 season opener, the powerful Nor’easter that swept through the Northeast this past week ruined any hope of racing at the Vernon oval this weekend. The Romano’s Driving School , Open House practice session, and the Mirabito “The Energy Leader” 46th Season Opener were all postponed due to saturated grounds that are preventing any type of track work.
The Romano’s Driving School that was scheduled for this Friday April 20 has been pushed back one full week until Friday April 27. The school is scheduled to run from Noon until 4 p.m. For more information, call Mike Romano at (518) 762-1333.
On Wednesday April 25, weather permitting; the Open House session will give competitors an opportunity to shake down new equipment while trying to get a handle on the new surface. All classes are welcome to participate in the practice session. Gates open at 4 p.m. with on track action set to go at 6 p.m. Pit admission will be $10 while the grandstands are free to the public. A special Friday evening open practice is likely so visit the speedway website for all the latest updates.
Then on Sunday April 29, the 46th Season Opener is scheduled to start the 2007 season at the “Action Track of the East”. Mirabito “The Energy Leader” will present a 46 lap $2,500 to win event for the 358-Modifieds plus a regular show for the Sportsman, Pro Stocks, Pure Stocks, and IMCA Modifieds with points starting in all divisions. Gates will open at 1 p.m. with racing at 4 p.m.
A reminder to all race teams, the American Racer tires that are the tire of choice at the Utica-Rome Speedway are available now at the speedway. While there is no mandatory tire rule, the American Racer brand is the only tire available at the track. The IMCA Modified division must still run its Hoosier brand as per the IMCA rules.
