Promoter Gary Palmer has spent countless hours working with the track crew to manicure his raceway into top-notch condition for the season opener scheduled for April 20th. Working day and night and with a little assistance from Mother Nature, Palmer felt he make it happen. Mother Nature, however, had other ideas and threw him another curve ball. A lingering storm hung around the area throughout most of Wednesday and left the track deep in mud and water. Despite all of the hard work, Palmer is forced to cancel all racing activity scheduled for the track this weekend.
In making the decision to cancel, Palmer stated, "It is our goal to give the drivers the safest and best possible track to race on that we can. We also want to make sure the fans coming to see the races, are treated to a first class show. With the track not responding the way we thought it would, the best possible scenario is to cancel until next week and allow the track another week to be prepared correctly."
Palmer further added, "There is no one more disappointed than me. We have been hard at work upgrading the areas we felt needed improvement, and making sure what we offer the fans is the best show around. We feel we offer great entertainment value at Accord, and want to keep building on that well into the future."
Accord Speedway will open next Friday, April 27th for the season opener. The Palmer Family will kick-off their 7th year at the controls of Accord with racing for all divisions, sponsored by TerraNova Four Seasons Pizzeria, and highlighted by a 50-lap Modified feature that will pay $2,000.00 to the winner.
Gary Palmer and his family have made continuous improvements to Accord since they purchased the facility in 2000.
From 1962 and heading into 2007, Accord has opened their gates for 45 years. The new season will punctuate the hard work and effort the Palmers have put into the faciltiy, offering the best in dirt short track racing.
