VERNON , NY- After Mother Nature pushed back the start of the 46th season opener at Utica-Rome Speedway, the second attempt to get the season underway will take place this Sunday April 29. The 358-Modifieds will compete in a 46 lap affair paying a cool $2,500 to the winner. Joining the 358-Modifieds on Mirabito “The Energy Leader” night will be the Sportsman, Pro Stocks, Pure Stocks, and IMCA Modifieds. Gates will open at 1 p.m. with racing set to begin at 4 p.m.
This season’s 358-Modified field at the “Action Track of the East” will prove to be one of the most talented in the speedway’s long history. Two-time defending Utica-Rome Speedway champion Willy Decker will have a huge task before him to make it three consecutive championships with talented 358-Modified chauffeurs like Bobby Varin, Ted Lamb, Todd Burley, Paul Kinney, Mitch Gibbs, Gus Schmidt, AJ Romano, and Stewart Friesen just some of the regulars returning from the 2006 season. Add into the mix some of the top talents in the Northeast like Jack Johnson, Pat Ward, Alan Johnson, and Ryan Phelps plus many rumored to make Utica-Rome Speedway their Sunday night place to race, and it surely will be one of the most competitive battles for the $8,000 358-Modified championship.
The season long point battle will not only begin in the 358-Modified division but it will also start in the Sportsman, Pro Stocks, Pure Stocks, and IMCA Modifieds.
Utica-Rome Speedway is located on Route 5 just east of the village of Vernon and easily accessible from New York State Thruway Exit 33. For more information, please log on to www.uticaromespeedway.com or call the speedway office at (315) 829-4557.
