Glen Ridge Opener Hampered by Mother Nature

Posted by Tom Ames  |  04/22/07

Fultonville, NY: The Glen Ridge Motorsports Park opened their doors for the first time in the 2007 racing season Sunday afternoon. On tap was to be the scheduled 40 lap Spring Clash for Modifieds. After equipment problems delayed the start, a new problem emerged in the form of dust.

The extremely warm weather, accompanied by a strong sun made visibility impossible at points. Heat races for all divisions were held - except for the Pro Stock and Slingshot divisions who each ran a feature only program.

The 40 lap Modified event took the green only to have the caution flag fly less than a quarter lap in. Due to dusty conditions the Modified division was pulled off the track. In the end, the Modified, Budget Sportsman and Street Stock features were not run. Drivers in all three divisions were happy that decision was made.

“I had a lot of drivers express their thanks for calling their portion of the show” stated Race Director Toby LaGrange. “On behalf of the entire staff I would like to apologize for today’s track conditions. The problems that we had today will be resolved this week.”

The Pro Stock, Cruiser and Slingshot divisions all got their feature events in. Chip Smith won the Pro Stock feature. Smith was followed by Ivan Joslin and Dean Charbonneau. In the Cruiser division, Bruce Liddle took the win over Claude Hutchings Jr. and Bryan Davis. Chad King took the Slingshot feature.

All three postponed events will be made up in some way. This coming Sunday the Modifieds will now compete in a Twin 20 Lap feature program. The night will start with a 20 lap feature for all drivers who were on hand on Sunday. They will be running for the normal purse that was to be paid out.

The Budget Sportsman event will be made up on Sunday May 20th. On this night the division will run 40 laps for double the purse. Only drivers who competed in Sundays show are eligible for the double purse. Other drivers are invited to participate however they will run for the regular purse.

The Street Stocks will now run twin 15 lap features on Sunday May 13th. These races will replace the Mothers Day 30 event. The winner of the second 15 lap feature will earn the NAPA Triple Crown Classic position.
